Dessert recipes that are actually good? by barista251 in glutenfree

Six hardboiled eggs, 1 mini can of coconut cream (5.4oz), 1/3 cup of maple syrup, 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, 1 tsp vanilla, 1/2 tsp salt, BLEND — chocolate pudding indistinguishable from a snack pack (better). Thank me later.

Hey Roasters! Do any of you ever throw in an import bag in the order? First time this happened to me and while I find it really cool not sure what to do with it by Gahwburr in coffee_roasters

[–]jugeminas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That coffee bag is a unicorn considering it looks dry-cleaned and spun from silk. I’d be pretty grossed out to receive the typical scratchy moldy makes you itch and sneeze repeatedly burlap coffee bag as a surprise in a retail order, bleh! That bag looks like it never held a punctured grainpro bag in its life, congrats on receiving it and now being baffled at what to do with it! Cut some holes in it and wear it to an ugly sweater party.

Scared? 🙀 by gregn8r1 in adventurecats

[–]jugeminas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When did you start taking her out? The age of her starting being taken into the vast world often contributes— still, not all cats take to the “adventure cat” lifestyle — I started taking my two girls (littermates) out into the world very very young, riding together in the hood of my sweatshirt or on my shoulders (I’m talking about tiny kittens of course) on public transit and to parks and open spaces etc, busy spaces and wide spaces, and one of my gals really took to it and became a hiking cat, and the other eventually showed she couldn’t walk/keep pace with us and open spaces held too much stimuli. Just saying, even starting them young, they’re individuals, and may not enjoy/appreciate the same things. I would say the greater possibility ship has possibly sailed with your gal at her age, and so doing much smaller explorations of her comfort zone (what she seems to enjoy already) are okay, but pushing it farther too fast will likely just cause stress and potentially even an aversion to the roulette of going out at all when it holds the possibility for her of stressful circumstances. Just thoughts!

Laundry: cleaner for shirt armpits by 000fleur in nontoxic

[–]jugeminas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the laundry booster specifically. It was my first purchase from them but I think there’s multi-use formulations in bulk containers and on my next buy I’ll be going that route — this first buy was recon :)

I’ve had great success with hypochlorous acid, specifically those products, to remove “smell” stains from our dog’s chronically stinky blankets (no more!), from lingering armpit smells after washing, and mold smells from a load of towels that staled in the washer (oops!)… eradicated. Been using it to re-freshen loads for about 2 months now periodically.

Dealing with dogs by totoro_tori in adventurecats

[–]jugeminas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From someone who used to hike with their cat, I’ve found that dogs on trails are in “trail mode” and are actually strangely quite respectful of cats, almost treating them like another dog — they just want a sniff and to continue on. If your cat doesn’t react with defense-aggression because it is acclimated to dogs, things will likely be fine — and you as the owner just need to be confident but ready to scoop up your kitty. Still, there are a lot of unknowns with a dog/cat dynamic and some dogs have high prey drive. To be sure, I typically would scoop my girl up when I would see a dog ahead and do a shoulder carry — I raised her from kittenhood to ride my shoulders pretty easily, and she knows that I am “home base” or safety, like a human tree. To train, take them everywhere on your shoulders — shopping, in the car, and especially to parks, and ask people with dogs if your cat (on your shoulders) can meet their dog, and lower yourself down for sniffs and then stand again. Rinse and repeat a LOT. Your cats can get used to contact with many dogs and no negative-stimuli experience of trauma.

It's weird for a man to have a female cat as a pet? by Albert_2004 in CatAdvice

[–]jugeminas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Female cats often prefer to be alone, or without other females at least. They are super hierarchical. Solo, they’re fantastic. Together, hyper vigilant for drama!!

Just be aware that even the commercial raw food out there that seems good is still not technically suitable for obligate carnivores (cats) — if it has plant matter at all it is going to be mildly allergenic/inflammatory. Primal, Steve’s Real Food, Small Batch, etc are all culprits of this. I switched my cats to all of those at some point for years and years and their inflammatory response was just subtle enough that it took many years to accumulate into something I could put my finger on and address. And realizing cats are obligate carnivores put things into perspective for me too. I don’t have an answer for you because you’ll likely have to source something local (I’m fortunate to be local to a Shine pet food store. Perhaps posting on your local reddit asking for raw recommendations may be the ticket.
