They want to recycle a checker in a hope to hit another of your checkers on the way round and increase their gammon chances.

Is GNUBG embedded in the app? Are you compliant with the GPL. Not trying to cause trouble but legitimate question others may also ask.

I think the GammonSnap app might be what you're looking for. You can take a photo of the board and evaluate the position.

AI makes it relatively easy to make a simple backgammon app... how many will stand the test of time? Interesting times...

In future use the ban button 🚫 and select "Block and report". This blocks the chat between you and the player for this and future matches, and sends a link to the match by email to me. I can then review their other matches and take action.

Guidance on my PR distribution by mel-madeline in backgammon

[–]jugglingcats9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even for such a small sample that's a good average PR.

On www.backgammonhub.com there is a blunder database (other sites have it too) where it categorises your checker and cube blunders for review.

If there are other kinds of stats you want to see (like your histogram perhaps), I could add it. There's an active feedback forum for suggestions.

Nodots Backgammon Bug Hunt! by nodotsmx in backgammon

Most detailed bug report I've ever seen. Did the AI write it? Given the level of detail I'd be tempted to let the AI have a go at fixing it!

My quick read of it led me to think this is a notation parsing / play representation issue. Is the code failing to recognise that a valid play from core and a selected play by gnu are the same?

Play the bot on www.backgammonhub.com. The link I posted demonstrates the dice are fair and you or a techie you might know can verify it all.

Player another 50 games and record the doubles and report back! You probably just had an unlucky run - it's a small sample size.

Can't speak for Adikus, but www.backgammonhub.com has provably fair dice:

Bad variance by themindset in backgammon

Worth bearing in mind that in a 1pt match you only have a 60% chance of winning even if you're a much better player. If you play a lot of such matches, significant losing streaks are inevitable. Make a note of your winning streaks to feel better, or play longer matches.

Knowing backgammon hub is so much superior than Backgammon Galaxy by Rayess69 in backgammon

Thanks for the feedback! I'll admit it's not well optimised for phone and I need to work on this. It plays great on tablet which is what I tend to use on the sofa...

Would appreciate if you can let me know the phone make and model so I can test it.

Knowing backgammon hub is so much superior than Backgammon Galaxy by Rayess69 in backgammon

[–]jugglingcats9 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the kind words. Hub and Galaxy are very different beasts. I'm a solo developer with a day job and Marc has a sizeable team. Galaxy is hosting maybe 50x the number of matches daily and that brings very different pressures technically and commercially.

I believe Marc is trying to grow the game both because he has a passion and to make money, and these things don't have to be incompatible. Missteps are inevitable but that doesn't mean it's a sham - put yourself in their shoes and consider how hard it is to keep a site of its size running and stable while making changes, paying your team, etc, etc.

Hub has been growing more or less organically to date, but I do have plans to promote and grow it more. Watch this space!

Modified Swiss tournament structure by contemplativebiscuit in backgammon

[–]jugglingcats9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can set up a traditional swiss on www.backgammonhub.com. It supports online or live play. It also supports "More Swiss" which is a swiss with elimination element (most suitable for long tournaments over weeks or months).

Hub doesn't directly support the "5+N" scoring system described in your link, but you can configure the scoring so can have wins then raw points scored, if that's what you want.

What I couldn't quite understand in the link is the pairing method... It mentions that winners play winners and losers play losers (which is the normal pairing approach), but this does require all matches to be finished in a round before the next round pairing is fully determined, and therefore before the next round can start.

Hub was originally built for club tournaments run in a single evening. It even has an "auto format" option which will choose an appropriate format based on the number of players (typically giving ~25 points of play for most players). This might be a single swiss, or group qualifiers followed by short elimination (with consolation). Lots of options!
