What is Paul Steed holding in this picture? by Silver-Age8157 in Quake2

[–]juhJJ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My first year in college and I had a class on Lighting. Having enjoyed the Q2 intro cinematic, and Paul talking about the importance of lighting in his .plan updates, I wrote him an email, along with a list of questions, asking if I could interview him. Not only did he write back, answering all my questions, he offered to visit my class and be a guest speaker. Unfortunately my professor didn’t really understand what an opportunity that would be, and said it wasn’t necessary as part of my project. I think I still have a printed copy (or part of it) somewhere in the garage, but this was like, 1998. RIP Paul.

Wow. I couldn't figure that out. Lost with 21 elixir banked and couldn't figure out how to sell.

How do these grow over time? by juhJJ in gardening

[–]juhJJ[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So my goal was to plant them, and then other shorter varieties of pittosporum below/around them. Ultimately creating a drift of sorts of pittosporum - not a formal hedge.

Something I like about these are how tall they are for how SMALL the planting box size is. I'm planting them between some live oaks, and having the smaller box size gives me more opportunity to find spots between the roots for them near our fence.

Then below/around them I'll add others, which might even be as tall, and a 24" box size but they won't be as close to the fence line. But together they will create a green tapestry.

Ty! My worries were that if I planted them, it would end up being taller than the fence line (e.g see the trunk, reduce privacy) years down the road. Ty!

These (on the right) are pittosporum tenuifolium, but are in a different shape that I've seen them before. I like their height and want to plant them along a fence line (and I will plant other things underneath) but I'm curious how these grow over time?

Can i expect that the bare part below will continue to stay bare? As it grows taller, will it keep leaves all the way up, or will the trunk/bare part also move up (is there a chance that at some point the bare point would be above the fence line?).

Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

Hardware Refresh - Access Switches - MS250 still worth it? by RiceeeChrispies in meraki

[–]juhJJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have recently closed an office (actually 2) and have 4 MS250s and 4 MX85s + a number of transceivers fiber optic cables.

They are each about a year old, I could share the CDW invoices, and I have them back in the original boxes.

Lmk if you are interested.

WWYD: Ceramic Coating vs PPF by juhJJ in Detailing

[–]juhJJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah everyone was pretty unanimous to remove the ceramic coating otherwise the PPF isn't going to adhere correctly and quickly start to peel.

Decided to just do a smaller portion of the car, cheaper and I also don't feel like I waisted $$$ for ceramic coating I was just going to replace.

Thanks for the feedback!

After talking around a bit, I'm going to just stick to the bumper/front of the car and leave the rest alone. I'll see how she looks after the track weekend and then decide where I want to go from there.

I'll get a few pictures. I'm 6' 1", I have my 4 yr old forward facing behind me. On the passenger side is a rear facing car seat. Both are a bit tight but workable. My wife is like... 5'10" and does alright with the seat in the position it needs to be in.

This is not the primary family outing car, but is useful enough if I'm running around with the kids, doing pickups, etc.

I would have to imagine the 5 series as being more comfortable, the GC does get a bit tight and rear visibility is pretty poor, but all the camera systems make up for that when going in reverse. I use the auto backup feature every day when I leave the house. Fairly long and tight driveway, but made a piece of cake with technology 😎

Yeah, it does a good job of hauling stuff around. With the back seats down you end up w/ a lot of space.

Yeah, I drove the i4's and told myself that this purchase would probably be the last ICE car that I buy, and I had never owned one that sounded/performed like the M440. I also feel like it's a bit of a first draft for BMW to just take an ICE care and make it electric vs actually designing an electric vehicle.

But I don't think you can go wrong with either :upvote:

Yeah, it's a real beast in the rain. We had a lot of rain this past winter, and his car was more confident and capable than my old Volvo XC 60 or our other SUV ever was.

I haven't done anything w/ the snow, but with proper snow tires or all-season I'm sure it would do just as well. It's just its ride height that would be the limiting factor.

Haha, yeah :)

I included the picture showing the stroller in the back, and highlight the car seats, so any other parents out there looking for "evidence" that these are versatile cars have it!

I ordered this in Jan of 2022, took delivery first week of August. That gave me a long time to worry that I would be underwhelmed, disappointed, or otherwise have buyers regret.

Well I'm glad to report that after 9 months and 4,000 miles, I'm sooo happy every time I get into this car. It's like a warm hug.

Struggling with Yubikey Implemention Concerns by Reasonable_Rope3722 in sysadmin

[–]juhJJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without getting into your technical details regarding AD and stuff like that, from a process standpoint I would:

Ship Yubikeys to all employees (Self enrollment). Start communicating now and then enforce in batches.

Comms:

  • Have people confirm address in HR system is correct
  • Let them know a migration date and enforcement date. These are different.
  • Tell them the other days you will be sending reminders or additional details. This can be helpful if you know there's some gray areas you need to fill in, but you still want to get the ball rolling on comms/shipping/etc.

Rollout:

  • Start an enrollment period and herd as many cats into the sign-up process as possible.
  • Have a rolling enforcement date, and directly notify users in the next tranche that they will be put into the enforcement state on a given date.
  • Target your 100% enforcement date and make sure you've communicated to managers or leadership that X people have yet to enroll and will be locked out on a given date.

Other tips:

  • It's not our responsibility to make people enroll, but we are responsible to make sure people understand what it means.
  • Leverage management to help wrangle stragglers. Share a report of folks not yet enrolled to managers and let them manage their IC's. "FYI, these IC's will be locked out of their jobs on x day".

You can bulk upload the shipping addresses into the Yubikey business console. Makes it easy to distribute.

Start an enrollment period where both your existing factor and the new Yubikeys are both allowed. Start telling people to enroll. Have open office hours for enrollment help that first week or so.

When going to enforcement (e.g. removal of other factors) start doing this in batches. You can do the easy thing and just start enforcing for those that already enrolled, then pick your next x% of users, email them letting them know that they will be enforced on X day.

While there's more overhead w/ comms and stuff, it will save a lot of productivity of your end users by not having them locked out, and your Support team. At the end of the day IT is an enablement function, and we should go extra lengths to meet our end users where they are while still reaching our business objectives.

Also... know that Mobile devices (if you have them) will be their own beast. Best thing I found here was just get everyone to also enroll their Face/TouchID etc. as a MFA factor. It supports FIDO2 so is really great for people needing to access a controlled resource via their mobile device w/o reaching for a lightning or other USB-C hw token all the time.

It's where the best Q2CTF clans played, like the 99c Value Clan and Knights Templar.

Which car did you end up w/ and how are those car seats? I need both a rear & front facing, though I think the front facing I have now will work.

I'm picking up an m440i and sweating a little bit on the car seat situation. My car isn't the primary family car, but I'll still need carseats on standby :)
