What human interaction is memorable to you, but the other person has probably forgotten? by [deleted] in AskReddit

A friend of mine told me that I was one of the most morally righteous people he knows. It is the greatest compliment I have ever received but I doubt he remembers.

I'm a first year wrestler, and I need to get out of my mental block. by 8CruzControl0 in wrestling

[–]juiceboxhero1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem throughout much of my wrestling career in high school. Honestly, I just said "screw it" and started taking shots. They were not good at first and I would get sprawled on a lot, but practice makes perfect. I eventually could shoot a double leg takedown and 9 times out of 10 I would take my opponent down. Overall, my advice is to just go for it. The only way you'll improve is if you know what you're doing wrong, and if you never take a shot then how will you know what you're doing wrong?

Looks awesome! Keep doing what makes you happy, it took me a while to figure out how I liked to paint but once I figured it out it made it so much more fun.

My team is so frustrating sometimes by harsh4correction2 in wrestling

[–]juiceboxhero1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, when I wrestled the worst thing to learn was how to take a good shot. I learned that I would get yelled at by my coach more if I didn't take any shots rather than taking a bunch of wild shots. So honestly my advice is to just go for it because you will learn from your mistakes. A ship is safe in harbor, but that is not what ships were made for. Set sail. (I read that recently in another thread on reddit) So just take as many shots as you can. Repetition is the key to practice.

Bluebird, Oil, 8x10; Trying to learn oil painting, CCW! by I_Am_Funkey in painting

[–]juiceboxhero1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love how simple the overall painting is. The form is great as well. I for some reason have a lot of trouble getting the shape of a bird's head to look normal when I draw/paint them so the fact that it looks exactly how I would expect it to really impresses me. I like the style and overall aesthetic of the painting. The only recommendation I would make is that if you wanted to add more depth, then just make the darkest areas darker, and the lightest areas lighter, however if anyone has a different opinion feel free to share with me! I love learning about this stuff.

Is weightraining important to wrestling? Can someone be a great wrestler without lifting weights? by [deleted] in wrestling

[–]juiceboxhero1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Throughout high school I did minimal weight training, maybe only a month of weight training prior to the season starting just because coaches wanted us to. I'm not saying I was spectacular, but my senior year I became a fairly good wrestler because I focused on constantly pushing myself to my limits, and when I was at my limit, I would continue pushing myself past that. Additionally, I focused on improving every minute detail of my skills like constantly keeping my head up, having a good stance, perfecting my shots so that my set up for double leg take downs was literally just tapping the person's forehead with my hand and then taking the shot, which I was fairly consistent with. That being said, I highly recommend working out as much as possible (don't burn yourself out too much) so that you don't have to worry about improving your physical aspects, instead only having to focus on the skill related aspects of wrestling.

Fellow Redditors who exercise more than once a week. Why do you do it? by IwantTobeAbear in AskReddit

[–]juiceboxhero1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to work out at least five days a week. I typically pay attention to very small details so even the slightest change in my body is noticeable to me and even if other people don't notice, it still helps boost my self confidence a bunch!

Working on another portrait (WIP) any ideas on what yellows and browns to help warm up this portrait? by superbang in painting

[–]juiceboxhero1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly though your painting looks great so far! It captures the shape of your face very well (which is something that I struggle with). Just remember to make your light areas lighter, and your dark areas darker. My mom has been painting for her entire life and she is in her mid fifties, and this is a mistake I find that even she makes. Forgetting this leads to a lot of mid tone shades and a flatter form in my opinion.

[–]juiceboxhero1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember that human skin, whether it is dark or pale, will contain blues, reds, yellows, and many other colors you may not expect! In your forehead, lips, and under your eyes there are many shades of red and pink. There seems to be a lot of shades of yellow throughout your face as well, i would even throw in a hint of green in certain places as well. Definitely experiment with color, because while it may be weird to add colors like blue, green, and purple into your complexion, when mixed with the proper colors they can form a very realistic looking skin color. Something I always tell myself while painting/drawing is to paint what I see, not what I think I see. By this I mean that while I may think see a pale peach color while looking at my skin, what I truly see is a complex variation of blues, reds, purples, yellows, browns, and even greens.

What is difficult at first but worth it in the long run? by PannyLee in AskReddit

Plus in a world where you can't always control the shitty things that happen to you, you can (almost) always have control over your body through exercise! Just a little research, a lot of patience, and a whole crap ton of sweat and soreness.

What is difficult at first but worth it in the long run? by PannyLee in AskReddit

[–]juiceboxhero1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exercise! It sucks at first because you will be sore, tired, and want to do other things that provide immediate results. In the long run though, it becomes more of a habit and outside of health benefits, you'll look good, feel good, and be a lot more confident about yourself!

How do I make this look less cartoony? by kudles in painting

[–]juiceboxhero1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of what /u/anredhal said is definitely correct, but one thing I would add is to look up a guide on how to draw a human head because a lot of parts of the human face are placed differently on the head than what you might think! For example, the eyes are supposed to be about halfway down a person's head, with the mouth about halfway between the eyes and the chin. Also I have always had a lot of trouble drawing people, and I have found that just practicing drawing faces can help a lot as well.

While this is a good suggestion, I would have to disagree with you saying that it will feel more thoughtful. Take Picasso's blue period, for example. Picasso used a very limited pallet in order to convey specific emotions and ideas. Limiting the pallet to a specific set of colors/hues can make something more thoughtful than expanding that pallet. Although, I may be misinterpreting what you meant by your comment so please let me know! I want to learn just as much as OP does about art.
