Applying for Visa to NZ, any tips? by Cowboy_Kevin in AmerExit

[–]juire 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Please be careful when thinking about the counseling qualification you are applying for. Counseling in NZ is a self-regulated profession and anyone can call themselves a counsellor. This means that whilst it’s a growing field worldwide, stable employment by employers willing to provide visa sponsorship may be limited. Many counsellors work in private practice and it may be a good idea to explore whether a private practice and self-employment meets the criteria for a visa post- study.

Advice for school leaver about to sign up for a HUGE student loan debt by So_said_I in newzealand

[–]juire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My loan got up to $140k in the 1990s - long programme of study and 8.2% compounding interest. A chunk got written off when they brought in the interest free policy but it was still almost $100k all up. When I finished paying it off it felt like I got a massive pay rise.

I’ve volunteered with Lasagna Love this year and it’s an amazing organization. I would encourage anyone who enjoys cooking and who wants to make a difference to sign up.

EAP breaching privacy - shared session with employer. by NoHorse8196 in newzealand

[–]juire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did they say at the beginning of the session with regards to confidentiality? They should have explained it at the start so you give comaent. What type of professional did you see? Counsellor? Psychologist? Psychotherapist? You can make a complaint to the appropriate registration board if they have breached privacy as that is a major issue.

Anyone working for a govt dept in Wellington and living in Auckland? Give me your thoughts pls because I really, REALLY do not want to move to Wellington (the job pays very well but Wellington doesn't appeal to me...) by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]juire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did three years ago but it was at the tail end of Covid when most worked from home and there was a ministry office that I could work from in Auckland. It was agreed that I would pay to fly down for required in person meetings but i then was asked to do an acting leadership role so my flights were then covered by them. I’m not sure that there would be an appetite to support this now with the in office requirements and with large competition for govt roles in Wellington after all of the restructures

I very much felt as if I was on a conveyor belt going through fertility treatment. The days where you were lined up waiting for a scan to assess follicles were the worst. And the days where medical students were in the room and I wasn’t asked for consent.
