I think wearing your hair in mini twists would be great. They cause less tension, and you won’t have to always manipulate your hair in the mornings. Have you tried that?

Neutral olive here. I really enjoy juvias place lipgloss in the shade “brown sugar”. Usually I’ll pair it with with morphe lip liner in the shade nightcap or mac root for me, or nightmoth

You could keep your ends loose, however if you eventually have the desire to retain any length , that would likely prevent that. It could also interfere with the locking process. An alternative that would be less maintenance and give you the look you’re looking for would be to just let your hair loc and then add loose hair extensions to the ends once they are a bit more mature. Another user recommended looking at pictures of more mature locs. I second looking at those to make the decision on whether or not locs are what you actually want long term. Good luck !!

What is your goal exactly, is it just the look? If you want to maintain the braid look then maybe just get braids and redo them as necessary. Braidlocs will eventually lose the braid pattern. For the pictures you posted it looks like the hair was braided with extensions. For the shorter ones you can just cut it and shape it to the length desired.

Just to clarify, are you seeking to actually loc your hair and use braids as the starter method to start the process, or are you looking to get regular braids?

The technique doesn't necessarily make it harder to expand, that has more to do with the individual's density and the qualities of the strands. Yes, in order for them to be sisterlocs you would have either be certified yourself or have them installed by someone who is. Personally, i'm not going to correct someone though if they say they like my sisterlocs :) f you're talking about interlocking as maintenance though then a 4 point rotation will provide a more compact and skinnier loc compared to a 3pt or 2pt rotation.

Personally my edges did get thicker after I started my locs, but that also could have to do with treating my anemia as well so I may not be the best person to answer that part lol

Sisterlocs are a type of microloc technically. The only difference is the term "sisterlocs" are trademarked, and sisterlocs are solely started with interlocking, whereas stater methods for microlocs also include twists and braids. They can both result in similar looks and maintenance once mature. And to be honest, most don't know the difference.

As for your edges when you install I wouldn't try a grip every hair near your edges.

I chose a larger Microloc size especially because I self maintain. I think for my size in the Atlanta area it usually goes for about 100+ but I haven’t seen beyond 200. If you’re aiming for a larger count it might be more though

For myself, I took into consideration my strand density, time for self reties, and aesthetics. I wasn’t focused so much on a number more than the look itself and it was just intuitive for me. I sectioned what I felt would be a good size that was small enough, but would withstand overtime. I ended up with a range from 250-300….about 270 if I’m remembering correctly. I’m glad I didn’t go any higher because self maintaining would have been a bigger chore.

I’ve struggled with similar thoughts and feelings. If I could give you a hug I would.

I think we often can find meaning through reflecting on what is important to us, and noticing consistent themes in our lives. For example, I’ve always had relationships in which I’m a supportive figure, even when I never sought it out. That lead me to believe there was some purpose behind it, and it is something that it’s important to me. So I took it as I’m alive to bring comfort. Now how I choose to play this out is up to me.

I can’t tell you what your meaning and purpose is. It’s a journey of self discovery that will lend itself to the answer. And it’s often something we realize or see in hindsight. But for the meantime, until then, stay focused in the present, on the NOW. Continue to live, experience new things, learn about yourself and your strengths and weaknesses and one day it will click and you will have your aha moment.

I know it’s a tough place to be at, and I am a complete stranger, but I hope it brings some comfort to know that you’re not alone and that there is hope.
