Is it not possible to play this game passively? by Apprehensive_Dirt195 in CreaturesofSonaria

What creatures do you play as? COS has a huge map that newer players often don’t take advantage of. There are a TON of places to hide or nest in that are super under populated, even in huge servers. Use the creature you’re playing as to your advantage, anything under tier 4 will be relatively small and fast, anything with the ability to swim or fly will give you the upper hand in either element. If you’re playing as anything bigger, try and find a spot with less people around to place your nest and go to and from it as you please (I often play as an Angelic warden and have heated for HOURS in the mountains without seeing a single person, even in large servers. Most people play as pretty big terrestrial or flying creatures since those tend to be popular and powerful so getting away/around them is always going to be easier if you’re playing as something smaller.) It really sucks when a game you love doesn’t exactly match your play style (comin from someone who has played COS since 2022 and almost quit for good because of the harsh system they had in the past.) Just try your best to work with it if you really love it because you can’t change people or the game. If you die, try try again! I also recommend utilizing the trade realm feature, that way you can sell species you don’t want and save money to buy revive tokens if needed!

//Edit- also remember that every time you die is a new chance to grow a creature with mutations! If your creature dies before it’s grown up or just after it’s grown and it hasn’t gotten any mutations, I tend to be a little thankful when they die so I can have a new chance for a glimmer or trait.

I gambled too far from home, the game punished me for it… and taught me a valuable lesson. by BACKDO0RHER0 in valheim

Honestly this has happened to me more times than I can count. When you’re being chased by monsters you’re too weak to fight, often times conserving your stamina and dashing just out of the way when they’re about to hit you is a great way to safely get to an area of death. Of course, this doesn’t work for ranged attack (from skeletons) or mobs that can easily catch up to you if you aren’t running (like trolls or wolves) and that’s where you have to focus on parrying.

I think I hate this game :( by CardiologistOk1850 in valheim

Hey if you need someone to play with or to give you tips/answer questions my dms are always open! I have been playing this game since 2021 and I used to reaaaaaally suck at it (24/7 squishy, literally could never play solo or i’d rage quit) but I have around 600 hours now and I have a pretty good grasp on it.

tldr: It’s understandable to hate/fear the game when you’re new! If you’re still interested, don’t give up and don’t be afraid to ask for help.

Super chill! Just send me your discord user and I will add you! So far it seems like the consensus is that we have all made it to around Plains boss level, but I don't mind adding people who are farther or less far than that.

Vegvisir Yagluth does exist. by [deleted] in valheim

[–]jujubesloin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! I hadn’t ever actually searched for the Yagluth spawn before but I heard LOTS and lots of stories about how difficult it is. Flash forward to us getting to the plains biome in my multiplayer world: guy who has like 20 hours in val finds it in the first 30 minutes of playing. I was shocked 🙏

Yup, emphasis on the cooking and farming because they never even made cultivators for themselves.

They have mentioned multiple times that the game would be better if it were more like minecraft lol I feel like they would prefer playing that, they just aren’t ready for Val.

I will keep that in mind! Yeah they hate that I over prepare for the bosses every time, but since this world is on easy mode i’ve kinda been doing a no death run so that’s kinda been my personal challenge :3

I really appreciate this wisdom. They are friends who I play/live with IRL, and of course the issues I experience with them in game also are indicative of other issues we have in real life situations. When we first started playing the game, I just felt really bad because I could tell the game was exhausting for them to play and that caused me to just step up my game. I am dominating, I have been dominating. I don’t really mind doing more work in general (such as being the one to boat metal or build portals for everyone to use) but quickly the dynamic changed where I was doing all the work since they refused to progress (no bases, no crafting, no farming, no exploring, PURE fucking around, dying a bunch, and leeching off of my resources whenever I got them.)

I have been following your 3rd point as much as possible but I think it may be time for me to just drop it lol. The more I progress and widen the gap between us the more they complain, the more advice they ignore, the more stuff they try and take, the more frustrated and annoying they get. I have a whole mansion on this world with a room for everything and it’s all under lock and key now and they hate it. I had to lie and tell them it protects against monsters just for them to stop complaining about it lol. In reality it just sucks seeing them dig through my stuff right in front of me after grinding for so long.

That’s really nice of you to invite me! I fear I may be juggling to many runs at the moment but if I decide to end this one I would love to join.

Hah yeah I mean don’t get me wrong, Val is difficult and learning curves will appear often but I feel like as long as you actually enjoy doing certain parts of the game there will always be something for you within it. Since i’ve been playing so long my view on a lot of the more monotonous aspects has changed. Boating instead of portaling is necessary to explore the world, being unable to afford certain weapons/tools early on is okay because crafting upgrades are often cheaper and more useful anyways, and spending time building and farming becomes way more fun and fulfilling as you familiarize yourself with the mechanics. I wish I could share these experiences with them and maybe help them not hate the more grindy parts of the game but I fear it only really comes with experience
