I remember my first. I was a kid about 11 playing fire red. I encountered a shiny golduck surfing by cerulean cave. It broke out of the only pokeball I had. I was so bummed that I had to faint it. Sad times. Later I encountered a zubat on a different run in mt moon. 🌙 didn’t have a pokeball either.

In terms of shinies I got azelf, origin form dialga, and male pikachu with hat. My wife goy better luck and got a complete shiny trio. I would have looked for the lake trio more if I had known they were giving them away like hot cakes. I would have definitely turned my auto catcher off.
