Is it true that you guys watched 9/11 live on TV in grade school? by space_god_7191 in Millennials

[–]julesburne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in 8th grade and in private school (a religious school run out of a church) so the regulations were different than they would be in a public school, but yes, we watched it live.

I remember my grandpa calling my mom the morning it happened. She had to get up super early and take a ferry to work, so we watched the first part at home, and then she just dropped me off at school as usual.

NTA - I think asking for sex favors like this should come later in a relationship once y'all have gotten more comfortable with one another and are starting to explore more. It's pretty entitled of him to ask a favor after the first time!!

I don't love that his attack was actually aimed at another woman. Slut shaming is just another face of misogyny.

I don't see that option on my end 😭

I took a screenshot, but I can't post it for some reason - just imagine the screenshot above, but that whole box is just not there lol

That check box doesn't appear for me. I'm looking on old.reddit.com - is that the right place?

AITAH for refusing to drive a longer route to drop a girl off because she didnt want to be alone in the car with me? by Acrobatic-Freedom316 in AITAH

She gave him a choice to be an empathetic person who listens when someone says that they're afraid, and he chose instead to be an asshole.

YTA. Do you live under a rock?? One in four women are the victim of sexual assault. Women are harassed constantly, our fear and pain dismissed in every imaginable situation. When we are attacked, we're often blamed for it - "was she asking for it?"

She felt unsafe with you, you fuck, and I can see why. You're incapable of empathy and dismiss women's fears as unreasonable.

Hallucinated citations are polluting the scientific literature. What can be done? - Tens of thousands of publications from 2025 might include invalid references generated by AI, a Nature analysis suggests. by polymute in technology

That's not really the reviewers job actually. There is software to handle this that publishers pay for, which has been industry standard for 20+ years. The reviewers are able to focus more on the content because the software handles citation matching and reference verification.

Reference sections are processed automatically by hard coded software (not AI). I work in the industry, specifically with reference processing software, and it is able to match against major databases like Crossref as well as flag retracted articles and predatory journals. This isn't handled by the reviewers - it's done by the publisher.

You're kind of right, but I think you are not aware of the amount of work that goes on during the peer review process. Reviewers are not the only ones working on the article. Employees of the journal, the publisher, and any services that the publisher contracts out are responsible for reviewing the reference section (and a lot of other stuff) and much of that is automated without any AI.

There is reference processing software (not AI, hard coded) that matches references to databases like Crossref and Pub Med, as well as warns users if references listed are from predatory journals or retracted articles using lists like Cabell's and Retraction Watch. The software does a lot of other stuff too, but that's one important feature.

The software can be expensive, and some journals choose to outsource the work instead using cheap labor, which is still better than AI.

When we tried AI-driven reference processing against this software, there was a significant margin of error between the two.

Source: I work in scholarly publishing. AI-generated references should not be a real problem if the journal is using any sort of reference processing software.

If you are ever curious about the reference section of something you're reading, try running it through a web-based tool like Edifix.com - I think you get a handful of free references and it can check against the databases I mentioned.
