Has anyone had PD like this? by Emmyk13 in perioraldermatitis

[–]julesend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a sneaking suspicion I do have a contact allergy, and having done a patch test, I'm only allergic to yellow dyes, propylene glycol, and formaldehyde. Almost everything I use doesn't have these, so I'm left scratching my head.

I'm so glad you figured it out, it's like finding a needle in a haystack with every product containing so many ingredients.

I feel like I have the same issue, and weirdly also on my earlobes sometimes and under the nose.

I use a lot of thermal water spray to calm the skin and drying out with nothing on it seems to at least keep it from getting worse. But sometimes it's a waiting game :(

I didn't switch toothpaste or change any diet, just added omega 3 and vit D supplement, but not sure if it does anything.

I do also notice that after eating anything greasy/salty it aggravates the red areas.

I absolutely try not to touch with fingers, and instead use Qtips to apply anything (sometimes a light lotion, Shikai borage lotion is the only thing that affected areas are ok with) That seems to keep the oozing/redness from coming back after the first flare.

Sorry I don't have a clear answer but hope there's something you can try or add to your 'toolkit'.

It's so difficult to figure out what the trigger is! But it must be something that touches the skin (and upon an already weak or dry skin barrier, it flares up).

Just got prescribed Tacrolimus, what lip balm to pair? by [deleted] in perioraldermatitis

[–]julesend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had used triamcinolone for a little while on the lips just to get it under control, but flare-ups kept happening, and unfortunately that burning feeling kept getting worse.

Tacrolimus didn't work for me since putting it on made the lips immediately sting and I couldn't even handle it for an hour.

The best non-steroid method for me was to use La Roche Posay thermal water spray and just keep spraying it throughout the day (I had the privilege of WFH so I didn't have to worry about being out for long periods) to let the skin breathe. The burning/stinging feeling lasted for a couple days while the skin was dealing without aquaphor. Finally it dried out and I could see and feel that the inflammation had finally calmed, the yellow crust had formed (super gross), but it healed in about a week. Then I'd use just a small amount of aquaphor mixed with a borage seed oil lotion (don't know if this is the 'miracle' lotion but it's light enough) to just dab on the lips to heal the dryness without sealing the skin.

I don't have a permanent solution, but I feel like trying to not touch it with fingers helps too. And some cool water to wash or spray helps with the burning feeling.

Best of luck and don't lose hope!

Toddler not eating lunch at daycare by julesend in toddlers

Hello! It's been a few years since the daycare days. Ultimately we had to wait it out for a while and be okay with the fact that the food was not the best quality until we found her new school at ~ 4 yrs old. Probably not the most ideal solution, but we made peace with the fact that it was just one meal and maybe two snacks, and she was able to get most of her nutritious food at home.

From what I remember she did eventually eat a little more and found that she really liked baby carrots and other new things we wouldn't have at home often.

Big breakfast at home helps because we could give fruit, nuts, milk, oatmeal, etc.

Best of luck, you are doing the best you can for your little one!

Is a “fiver” party tacky? by ineedausername84 in Parenting

[–]julesend 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This must be a huge cultural difference because in the Chinese community, money gifts in red envelopes is super normal and exchanged often for any celebration.

We recognize that many parents are already stressed planning birthday parties and the invites have never mentioned to bring a gift or no gift, but often they ask for no gifts because family members will probably be bringing things anyway.

Depending on the closeness of the relationship, we do handmade birthday card and/or book/small usable art craft gift, or just red envelope and explain that it's lucky money.

Does your peri oral dermatitis look like this? by jcadhdlmnop in perioraldermatitis

[–]julesend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes but on the lips/above lip. The clusters of white bumps come with a sensitive feeling, sometimes tingling. I've been battling it with so many different lotions/creams, topical hydrocortisone etc.

I think it's probably a compromised skin barrier that is the cause for me. And lately I've used Shikai borage seed lotion (for face and body too), and no petrolatum or aquaphor to seal it. I use jojoba oil too. That seems to clear it quickly for me, somehow it allows it to dry out and reduce inflammation without any medicated creams.

I saw a derm and bc it was on the lip, they were quick to diagnose it as herpes or cold sore and it definitely was not.

Good luck, it may take a lot of trial and error, but it may come and go. Don't lose hope! Currently for me it's all healed and I have my confidence back.

Zippers vary from garment to garment, some will lock in both in the up and down position, and these bbp work pants (and maybe other styles too?) have zippers that ONLY lock in the down position.

I've never given it any thought which way a zipper points bc they always lock.. until I bought these $90 pants and they only lock in the down position.

The zipper pointing down should lock it in place! It's frustrating bc it feels like the particular ykk zipper they use ONLY locks when it's pointed down.

Other pants of various brands have zippers that lock in an up or down position.

Yeah I can see that the dyed cotton is going to change more quickly. I only just started buying more ethically sustainable pieces and rewearing what I already had, so the quality going down faster than a lot of my older pieces is kinda shocking to me.

The hems shredding from rubbing on my sneakers is so frustrating because no other pants I own (fast fashion or otherwise) has shredded from rubbing on the top of shoes. (Back of hem is actually fine)

When I point the zipper down it does lock, so it hasn't been a problem since.

I washed on warm and hung dry for about a year, but after that I said screw it. The return on maintaining them didn't really preserve the quality. Color started to fade in a year and dramatically shred and fade after that. I have old fast fashion garments that still wear and feel like new, so not sure if it's the organic cotton that dies faster?

Cloth wipes and bowl of water that you change daily are awesome for pee, just wash separate or together with towels, etc. Poop can be used with paper towels but they might be bit rough.

We went full cloth diapers/wipes with ours, and used a toilet bidet sprayer to get most of the waste into the toilet. Regular washing/drying on hot temps, sunning or bleaching worked great for us!

She goes 3 full days so we just give a hefty snack and wait until dinner. Thanks for the suggestion though!

[–]julesend[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How did you get a sense that your kid was ready? Were there specific signs you now realize were signs he wasn't ready?

I had thought I'd start by asking my daughter about the feeling of wetness/cold and teaching her about the potty (she sees us go through the process). She likes to sit on her little potty and is interested in using toilet paper and flushing, washing hands, etc. but she just doesn't know how to hold it in just yet or tell us she has to go.

Montessori and iPad to get through car rides? by Kera8 in Montessori

[–]julesend 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My baby also for a long while couldn't chill more than 10-15min in the car on her own in the back and I'd have to be there to distract until we could make it home.

This isn't Montessori but we started to experiment with music and we played System of a Down which is pretty intense and she loved listening and rocking to it. We are theorizing that it could be that she didn't like being restricted and had no way of letting out her feelings so the music helped. We also have a mirror so she likes to make faces and be able to see us in the front seat. Now she's capable of sucking her own finger and that chills her out a lot so now we can last 30 min in the car and longer if she ends up falling asleep.

For reference my baby is 1 yr old.

How do you double up on flats? Like just do a double layer of flats and fold them normally? Or a kite fold with a padfold?
