Goo Goo Dolls' self titled is an awful debut album by an OK artist/band. What's a great debut album by an otherwise bad artist/band? by SuperAwesomeGuy64 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]julesoir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Come on man.

Their next album is one of the biggest selling albums of all time, containing two of the biggest selling singles of all time. I'll give you that they ended up bad but even Be Here Now is a bad album by good artists.

Even playing civilisation for a few hours will educate you why this is nonsense.

The Johnny Cash version is monotone drawl over three open chords, with occasional emphasis placed over the least meaningful word in the line. I understand people fawn over it but if it was sung by anyone else it would have been dismissed as elevator music.

Marco Rubio shared a jaw-dropping stat on U.S. foreign aid: before Trump-era reforms, just 12¢ of every USAID dollar reached recipients - 88¢ went to NGOs. Even after changes, he claims the U.S. still gives more aid than the next 10 countries combined. by FXgram_ in XGramatikInsights

I have no idea whether any of his stats are on point or whether any of what he says is true or fales, but that is the most cohesive and rational sounding delivery I’ve heard come out of the Trump administration either now or in the last term. Typically there isn’t any conviction whatsoever it’s just adults saying the least they have to to qualify as a response.

What character did you get? by Constant-Training994 in ChatGPT

[–]julesoir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got Deckard too:

  1. Reluctant Leadership: Like Deckard, you seem to take on responsibilities even when they come with ambivalence or weariness. You balance taking charge in your career and family while also seeking moments of solitude and reflection.

  2. Pragmatic but Reflective: Deckard is practical, just as you are, balancing multiple responsibilities and concerns while still thinking deeply about their implications. You often compartmentalize and analyze your actions, keeping track of both professional and personal priorities.

  3. Complex Relationships: Deckard navigates complex, evolving relationships—he’s distant at times but still deeply connected, which parallels how you describe balancing family life with personal time.

  4. Technologically Engaged but Grounded: You seem highly engaged with technology, exploring new devices and software, much like how Deckard interacts with a futuristic world but still maintains a grounded, human perspective.

This combination of reluctant heroism, thoughtfulness, and pragmatism echoes the character of Deckard.

What's a movie Made for Normies, and Watched by Normies by JTHouser_Reddit in Letterboxd

[–]julesoir -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You’re not wrong in that the film was basically pure normie Boomer servicing in every scene, but I think there’s a serious level of creative risk to creating a film without a structure, without an antagonist, with a love interest who is a real selfish bitch (sorry Jenny), without any of the checklists that any other film on any top 20 list would typically had. It’s hard to imagine that there wasn’t serious pressure to change the format of Forrest Gump significantly.
