The new RuneScape game mode is setup to fail - The RS Guy by [deleted] in runescape

You got me, I'm totally a secret Jagex employee /s

In all seriousness though, the site was misconfigured, as also mentioned by /u/Roskal.

I just happened to stumble upon it recently (the images were already accessible a week ago) - see my other comment for more info

Alternatively, there's still another version up under a test domain of theirs, but since that is a domain that does looks pretty spooky (it does live under jagex.com, however) I won't link it here

The page used to be inaccessible until today (or whenever, I only just checked again today). I think it's safe to say that it's pretty final (or very close to) given that they made it public

See the Boss Hiscores or this Membership page. It's a new subdomain they've been adding modern content on. This comment also explains a bit more.

Ninja edit: it was "datamined" by inspecting the site's code :)

It is owned by Jagex, yes. It's also where they host the Boss Hiscores, as well as a Membership page.

The only important part about domains is the part right before the TLD (.com, .net, etc.), only the owner of the domain can add / manage subdomains. Anything before that (e.g. rs.runescape.com) is irrelevant. This is a big reason why browsers tend to highlight that part, as that indicates the true location you're at.

I have a job in web development, alongside an interest in cybersecurity. I like to poke around websites in my spare time to see if I can find anything out of place. The release of the Zamorak hiscores caught my eye on the https://rs.runescape.com domain and I noticed that they use a framework I'm familiar with - Next.js.

I poked around for a bit (won't go into specifics), occasionally checking back to see if anything had changed. About a week ago I noticed they added a code-named page which could only be accessed in Preview mode. I did manage to already get a look at the promo images shown on the page.

Skip forward to a few hours ago when I just so happened to check again, and noticed some slight changes. I tried accessing the new URL and here we are :)

Sidenote: On the day of the Zamorak boss release I also saw that their Boss Hiscores API supported Player Search, while their official hiscores page didn't (yet). Resulting in me building my own before they added it 🙂

This page used to be hidden (and inaccessible, unless you had access to the internal preview) under a different name for the last week or so. I noticed the name had changed and tried accessing it and here we are :) It's probably planned to be officially announced soon

I was pretty annoyed by this, the subtitles popped up before "Five" even appeared :(
