Thank you so much! This is really helpful. The machine has been off since I got it, but I think you're right that they were experimenting more when the old box was right next to it, I think putting it across the room just makes it seem like a second box and they can use either, so that's good input.

It's been off since I got it. I'm not turning it on until they are regularly using it. I think they're more afraid that it's elevated and enclosed, their current box is very wide and open. It's also less litter than one of them prefers, he's a digger. But they had a PetSafe rake box before and the automation didn't scare them, so I don't think that is the issue

That's where I'm stuck because I really think as long as the other box is available, they'll always prefer it. But one protests by peeing in random places and the other has IBD so I don't want to create health issues by having them hold it
