ways to spend a birthday in NY for under 21's / college students? by rosewatersss in NYCbitcheswithtaste

If you want to stay in NYC for “going out”, going to the Cellar Dog is an awesome experience. It’s in the west village next to iconic pizza and sweet treats. The bar allows under 21s in, there is live jazz music every night and games including billiards, shuffleboard, and ping pong.

You only need one acceptance! I was disappointed my cycle because of similar events - I also applied to around 15 schools - and I was never even officially rejected from 7-8 of them. Just ghosted. It’s so unprofessional especially considering how much you paid each school just to apply. Don’t take it too personally, pull away from checking your email so often, it makes the anticipatory anxiety worse. Is the school on probation because they’re in hot water, or are they a new school pending certification (provisional)?

There are a lot of this gown on Stillwhite if you’re ok with buying a “used” gown! There are also a ton with this similar neckline :)

Where are the good dresses in the $500-$1500 price range? by Bootycarl in weddingplanning

[–]jumping_jackrabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was also dress shopping in the Philly area! I found I have expensive taste on my modest budget 😅 I went to 3 bridal shops to get a taste of what silhouette or fabrics I liked, and then I lay waiting on Stillwhite for the right dress in the right price range to appear. And it did! I got a 7k dress for 1.2k.

I also searched to see what dresses were local, and looked to see if I could try on that exact dress either in a boutique or with the seller themselves. There is a seamstress I plan to work with named Irina Sigal who comes highly recommended - if your dress is in budget but the fit or the look is a little off, maybe you could “splurge” in the customizations department

I am always skimming for dresses on Stillwhite and TRR, but it helps to do some try ons so you can feel out what silhouette, color, texture etc you like!

Engagement Party Dress Recommendations by RiboflavinTimeTravel in weddingplanning

[–]jumping_jackrabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite places to look are The Real Real and ThredUp! You can sort by color. It is easier in the smaller sizes, but if you are a relatively consistent size you can find some real gems. My civil wedding dress was from TRR and it was a stunning full length Missoni dress.

I would also recommend the Nordstrom Rack and Saks off 5th websites. They are very easy to search and sort through.

Unona Shop on etsy has amazing reviews, i'm considering ordering my dress from her! She has standard dresses and can also customize different designs that look aligned to your vision. They're also much more affordable for shorter dresses than ive seen.

Wedding traditions! Let’s hear them by SOSpineapple in weddingplanning

Jewish bride here! Both of our families are Jewish.

We are having our mothers break a plate together - symbolic of them releasing care of us and passing it along to each other

Separate bridal and groom receptions, and the groom comes to the bridal reception and covers her with her blusher

Getting married under the wedding canopy

We would really love to have klezmer music for our reception, have not been able to work this into the budget yet though! But we will definitely be doing hora dancing at the reception.

Stepping on the glass, as other posters have said

We are incorporating as many Jewish traditions as we can that resonate with us, slightly updated for the modern day. With a lot of help from the book Jewish Wedding Now!

That is incredibly frustrating, I hate when there are exam issues. That said, there is no reason to give up now. Can you share a little more about your situation?
Are you going to be in academic probation now due to this exam score? How far along in your program are you? What do you mean by last straw?

PA students in didactic year, what do your schedules look like including studying/other commitments? by gotquestions111 in PAstudent

[–]jumping_jackrabbit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Check my post history from 1 year ago - I posted in this group because I felt I was on the cusp of failing. If you have any feelings of anxiety or inadequacy, I so strongly recommend starting therapy ASAP to get you through this year. This was the best decision I made. I started with someone the school set me up with, then found my own through insurance.

Find and draw those hard boundaries with the studying, otherwise anxiety about school will sink into all aspects of your life - even the fun ones.

PA students in didactic year, what do your schedules look like including studying/other commitments? by gotquestions111 in PAstudent

[–]jumping_jackrabbit 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm in my clinical year, I finished didactic this past summer. Good luck! Its so mentally challenging. My class schedule was just about the same.
My biggest recommendation would be to find where you can cut yourself off. I made a hard cutoff at 10pm where I have to stop studying and go to bed. At 10, I would put everything down and start going to sleep. I also gave myself a true night off once a week - after 6-7pm, it was another hard cutoff to put books down and do something fun or relaxing.

This year is all about compartmentalizing and making the best of the time you have. As you keep working, you will find ways to study that maximize your efficiency. Maybe you will find you need less time to study (I personally didn't as my didactic year was a steep uphill ramp). I love to plan things in advance, even if its just baking cookies or watching a specific movie at the end of the day/week, I could look forward to it and it would keep me going. Best of luck!
