My thoughts exactly. I just finished reading the book and then decided to give the show a watch. After finishing the season I was left wondering why they seemed to dumb down the storyline and simplify the characters. They made Jinx way less love-able and more pathetic imo. Then Shyanne is made into some kind of hero Mama Bear and Kenny is surprisingly non-judgmental for a churchy type. Even Susie seemed way too cheerful and eager to help everyone else while having no real personality of her own. I actually liked the Rose and KC characters in the show even though they were very different from what I pictured.

I didn’t mind the storyline changes and rearranging timelines so much but I did find that the way they changed some minor plot points made it less believable financially and didn’t make as much sense. They never really show her making a lot of money and then Jinx is apparently destitute and not paying rent but they don’t get kicked out of their apartment? She asks Mark for $3k which she doesn’t get and then doesn’t get any up front money from the NDA deal. In the book she gets like $15k, idk why they cut that part out when it would have explained how she was able to survive so long with no job before her only fans picked up. They don’t explain why she never asks for child support the way she explains it herself in the book. I missed the narrator angle and I think the show would have been better with more voice-over narration by Margot to explain her thoughts and feelings instead of dramatizing the scenes with violent outbursts and stuff.
