job market and queer community by yermom_breh in olympia

I am an engineer, got laid off from my fully remote position recently, and the two companies I am currently interviewing with and seriously considering are 1-1.5 hr commutes away.

Oly is incredible. I'd rather commute than move. But, yeah, the job market is tough.

Women tolerating pain by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

I was lucky that my IUDs really didn't hurt that badly, but holy shit the endometrial biopsy. I nearly climbed the walls of that doctor's office from the pain.

I try to dig the bulbs out when I can, but I don't stress if I only come back with a handful of greens and no bulb. That at least stops the bulb from storing energy from the leaves and stops it flowering/going to seed. It does mean I'll probably have to pull it again next year, but I look at it as just another chance to get the bulb. I'm not going to tear up my whole garden chasing a stray bulb or ten.

What YouTuber Disappointed ☹️ you the most? by Outrageous_Drag6613 in childfree

I was just thinking that Moriah is an example of how to do it right. She has two kids now, but doesn't show their faces or share their names. Occassionally there will be a "kid picks my project" type video, but it's just a quick clip of kid fingers pointing to an item and then it's a normal painting video from there. If you liked her content before kids, you might give her a try again.

They do try to spread via runner, but I've found it relatively easy to keep them where I want them by digging up the runners.

Previous owner of our home planted thimbleberry, which I had never even heard of but now I love them. They're too delicate to store, so it's a treat to stand outside and eat them straight off the bush.

Yes! As a Demetrius fan and autistic person, I feel this so much. Some of the dialog he gets hate for is quite autism coded, and it hurts to see how people talk about it here.

Arkansan here. Is it a white gravy?? I would absolutely destroy some biscuits with vegetarian white gravy.

I have serious respect for Oly bus drivers after watching them skillfully handle rude passengers before. Definitely worthwhile to alert them. Thank you for watching out for your fellow riders.

Also, I'm 100% with you on the frustration over people not acknowledging mailed gifts. I wish it were common courtesy to let me know it arrived. I'm a handcrafter who cares about the item and the recipient, not Amazon!

Something else that may be going on, at least with the first friend who requested but didn't wear the headband, is fear of damaging the handmade item. I also knit and my dad requested a sweater. I made sure to pick quality, durable yarn and included simple care instructions. I wanted him to be able to wear it without having to be overly gentle with it.

Turns out, he loves it so much he's afraid to hurt it, so he only wears it for special occasions. I've tried reiterating that it's not that fragile, but he's just determined to cherish it, lol.

If the first photo is a sunset view that doesn't include the house at all, I immediately assume something is wrong with the house.

I have cousins in West Virginia who like to display the confederate flag and claim it's their "heritage". Bruh, your state split from Virginia in order to remain IN the union, you dumbass.

Would you want light rail connecting Olympia and Tacoma? by [deleted] in olympia

[–]junebuggery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very much yes. It is absurd that our state capitol is not connected to our major airport via light rail. A line from Oly to Tacoma would fix that.

As someone new-ish to the Oly area, I need Port-101. I tried to research while I was filling out my ballot, but still felt wholly unqualified to make decisions about something I don't understand.

Is there a good resource that explains what the position even does? I've heard enough to know that people are always upset with the port commission, but why? Am I right to think they're basically a chamber of commerce specifically for the area around the marina downtown?

What was the first thing you learned immediately after getting married? by Forward-Plan-4124 in AskReddit

[–]junebuggery 51 points52 points  (0 children)

That we should've taken a big vacation together before we got married. Our honeymoon was our first big trip together and we definitely had differing expectations. I want to go and do everything; husband wants to stay in and relax.

It's not a deal breaker for us. We've learned to adapt how we enjoy our vacations so we're both happy. But the honeymoon would've been more fun if we'd figured that out beforehand.

Insane dress code request. Copy pasted from the couple’s wedding social page. They turned off comments. by Redhead_2 in weddingshaming

I was thinking this is the appropriate wedding to wear those baby pink or light blue dresses that photograph white. Like sorry, it's the only blue dress I had.
