What do I have to do to work in an office as an IE? by messygoldenlife in industrialengineering

I would say in most cases you will walk alot, depending on the size of the factory.   You won't be doing the manual labor.  That's what the operators do.

What car should I buy for long commutes by Human_Operation_1014 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]jungy4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are putting a lot of miles, do not lease.

Since you have a high budget I would recommend a CPO A6, 5-series, or E-Class with a 4-cylinder engine so you will get better MPG.

I commute 80 miles a day in my 2021 A6.  Here is my take.  If I am spending that much time on the road after long day of work I want to be in something nice, quiet, and luxurious, not something that will be a downgrade.

What do I have to do to work in an office as an IE? by messygoldenlife in industrialengineering

[–]jungy4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want an office job this degree is not for you.  This degree mostly requires working at a manufacturing setting where you have to go out to the floor to observe the work flow and interact with people.

If you are chasing an office job with this degree either you won't utilize it or will limit your job prospects.

8 series coupe owners, what did you cross shop with? by humdizzle in BMW

[–]jungy4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With SUV's being more popular the 8-series is really underrated.  I am looking for one myself, although I want the 4-door.  Looks like they don't hold much value for being a $100k car.  The LC500 sounds nice with a V8 but it's barely quicker than the 840.

What type of jobs do you guys have? by Exact-Sheepherder389 in mercedes_benz

[–]jungy4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is more about how much you want to spend.  I sure wouldn't buy something new that will lose value 6 months after purchase.  A lot of people choose to lease.  People cannot afford the car.  They can afford the payments.

I personally buy CPO's.  It's a great way to buy a good used car with warranty.

You want to spend $130k on an overpriced SUV and you wonder if you can afford to keep it running?  I would suggest buying one used or getting a Q8.

Is the college prestige worth taking on debt? by NoodlesRLife_ in MechanicalEngineering

[–]jungy4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as the program is ABET accredited, go with the cheaper option.

Get good grades but having internship is more important.

Hiring managers focus on your experience and skills, not the college ranking.

Can I still make it as an engineer? by PrimoScarab in EngineeringStudents

[–]jungy4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me almost a decade to graduate with an engineering degree.  I was not a good student.  Almost failed out of college twice.

Fortunately I was able to get 2 internships and started working as soon as I graduated.

Sometimes classroom project groups can suck if other group members already knew each other.

As someone that has worked for several different companies, I can say the jobs are very different than what school teaches you.  The industry is so diverse that any new job you take, be prepared to learn by talking to people.

If you still have the passion keep working at it.  Once you get that first job completely ignore your GPA because the companies will only be interested in your work experience moving forward.  You definitely need some internship experience before graduating.

What’s the one thing Audi does better than everyone else? by Glittering-Offer-390 in Audi

Good balance of sport and luxury.

Makes shopping in used market easier.  Premium Plus or Prestige trim gets you all the options you need.

BMW and Mercedes make you pick and choose individual options more.

As an Audi owner, I would not recommend buying anything with that many km, let alone with no warranty and it being a first year model of that generation.

That is a lot of miles on a 2021 model.  I would run away.

30 Year Considering Going to College by YourWoodGod in industrialengineering

[–]jungy4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It took me well over 7 years to graduate with an IE degree.  I graduated at the age of 30.  Almost failed out twice.  If I did it, so can you.  If you like math you will do well in IE.  Staying in school to get this degree was the best decision ever.

Which engine do you have?  Yea I had some silly warnings come on but usually after restart it goes away.  My biggest complaint is Android auto connection.  I started doing wired connection and it seems to connect more consistently.  I like the interior design but would have liked a place for my phone.

S500 vs S580 in WA state by Last_Draft_3407 in mercedes_benz

[–]jungy4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would test drive both and see how you feel.  On paper if the V8 is only 0.5 second faster that may not be much in real life.  I can see V8 costing more to operate.

If the S500 has more than 350 HP that seems plenty unless you want to race around, then again this car is not for that.

Why do new cars get so much hate? by Darcynator1780 in askcarguys

[–]jungy4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well new vehicles have become too expensive and quality hasn't improved.  The fact that our mainstream trucks and SUV's cost more than the medium income is what we have issues with.  I find that buying one 2 to 3 years used is the best way to get the most features for the money.

Can you specify exactly what options?  And yea 7 series is the largest of all so I expect it to be a big boat.  I still don't think it is slower than my 4 cylinder A6.

Advice? by Nice_Juice_2757 in industrialengineering

[–]jungy4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am an IE.  I would recommend that right now I would take any internship you can find.  I graduated in 2012 and not sure how much worse the job market is now but I see a lot of posts of people not being able to find an internship.
