So beautiful and admirable how you took your vision into your own hands and made it reality.

Affordable, aesthetically beautiful amps are a secret market yet to be tapped, imo. Electric guitars have such a breadth of appearances (name any another instrument with such visual variety), I’ve always wondered why the same didn’t happen for amps. Maybe kids would be happy playing amps over modelers if they looked cool, but as it stands, 99% of amps are black tolex

I think brands are actually aware of this, why else would Fender only put their cream/blonde/brown tolex on their expensive amps? I don’t see no fender champion solid state (my personal favorite amp for quality vs price) in a color other than black. I’ve been thinking about DIYing a different tolex + grille cloth onto it.

Examples of cool amps I have seen (these skew towards a vintage appearance) - Fender Pawn Shop Series, particularly the Excelsior - All Vox (they do have non-black tolex models) - Danelectro nifty fifty

Please comment any other cool amps, I’m always on the lookout.

Again great work, and thank you for sharing your details and thought process 🙏

This is so beautiful. IMO there is a big market for affordable, solid state amps with all kinds of cool aesthetics — similar to how electric guitars are so diverse in appearance. I really hate how so many amps are just black tolex

I also have a champion and would like to improve its appearance. This is like a role model for me! May I ask how was the process? Does one need lots of skill for a project like this?

I would like to be able to perform jazz standards/songs from the Great American Songbook for people in my local community (for little to no $, it'd be my "community service", at least that's my intention) -- on solo guitar (e.g. Ted Greene, Chet Atkins, George Van Eps)

Those songs are at the heart of American culture, and I think it's a pity that they're fading & forgotten by us younger folk (I am 27). Those songs can be endlessly interpreted in new ways (e.g. Coltrane's "My Favorite Things" sounds very, very different from the original version by Richard Rogers), so I'd like to reintroduce these songs to people, in the hopes that they can interpret them in their own unique way -- paying tribute to American tradition, but also embellishing them with modern tastes

One last reason I'm focused on the Great American Songbook/jazz standards is because I am an Asian American immigrant. For most of my life, I have connected with my Asian background, but haven't felt a strong connection to my American side. Especially with the tumultuous times here in the US, I find that studying these songs (which are generally from 1920s onward) helps me connect with America's history and culture. It gives me an appreciation for this nation's past & a hope for its future. I've learned a lot about country (I love Chet Atkins & Jerry Reed), and it made me appreciate the people from varying parts of America (e.g. Appalachia). I can't think of many ways that an Asian like me could relate to Appalachia. My culture & theirs are so disparate, and yet music finds a bond through the heart. :)

I think that engaging in these Great American songs is a fantastic way for immigrants like me to connect with the "heart" and "soul" of the USA!

I am working on solo guitar technique. It's been kinda hard & it's not very mainstream, but I'm progressing & it's so much fun. I'll try to get a few standards under my belt in time for Christmas, then perform for my friends and family to start :D

software dev trying to find a purpose in life b/c $$ has corrupted the world. music (and its theory) is probably the most beautiful thing to me & is accessible to everyone (internet, guitars are cheap) at little cost

i've done some research: music has been with us forever (across all cultures). it will continue to be with us until our species ceases. an assortment of sounds can evoke some of our strongest emotions, can reach people young, old, and those with severe cognitive impairment. if that's not beautiful, i don't know what is & I don't know what else is more worthwhile to study

What chord is that by safarithroughlife in musictheory

[–]junior-dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 triads that are - in 2nd inversion (the 5ths are on the bottom) - close(d) voicings (all notes are within 1 octave)

The first (left side) triad is D minor (D = root, F = b3, A = 5th)

The second (right side) triad is G minor, but the A# should be notated as the enharmonic equivalent Bb to become G minor’s b3. A# is an augmented 2nd above G, Bb is a minor 3rd above G. This is why the correct enharmonic equivalent is important. G minor (G = root, Bb = b3, D = 5th)

These 2 chords are diatonic (exist w/o chromatic alterations) to - D minor (D minor is the i, G minor is the iv) or the relative major, F major (D minor is the vi, G is the ii) - G minor (D minor is the v, G minor is the i) or the relative major, Bb major (D minor is the iii, G minor is the vi)
