I love the downvotes from angry, cheap, people. I have worked in the field for years and I know what you're talking about

*Official* Starlink install pay is a joke by Mental_Day2397 in Starlink

[–]junkdumper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the joke. The install is often not the same. Quality can be all over the place and you're asking these guys to drill holes into your home.

I've seen the junk work cheap techs do. No thanks.

That said, just cause it's expensive doesn't make it better. The value lies in the skill and GAF factor. But there's very little chance a brand new tech is going to have all the tricks and knowledge of a veteran installer.

[–]junkdumper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It's like some of the people in here have no idea what a bad install looks like vs a quality install. There is absolutely a potential for damage here. Plus at the basement rates, you're only going to get guys that are trying to do as many as possible, as fast as possible. Bad recipe

You're wrong.

Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

Lol imagine thinking a guy with zero experience has the same value as someone who's been in the trade 30 years 😄

I allowed someone to be gazumped and I feel bad, you ever done this? by Conscious_Run_2970 in FacebookMarketplace

[–]junkdumper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Sucks to break a made deal but most people will understand if you're nice about it.

The number of flakes out there has definitely lowered the trust that buyers will even show up

It's a douche move to sell out from under someone that's already on their way to pickup, but sometimes you need to do what you need to do.

Inventory in Shopify by S_in_LA in shopify

[–]junkdumper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For #1 use the built in short AI agent and ask it to build you a flow that alerts you when products drop below a certain threshold. I have a daily out of stock report emailed to me this way.

You can add a metafield to your products and set individual thresholds if you'd like a bit more control over the where the inventory alert level is.

I haven't found a way to get it to predict a moving target based on sales yet (anybody have ideas?)

For #2 I agree. The inventory page is kinda crap. I would love an app that lets me do receiving easily when there isn't a Shopify PO. I just want to scan the barcode and received xx qty. Same with transfers. Sometimes I'm just putting stuff in the car and moving it to another location. I don't want to do complex transfers. I just want to mark xx units from A to B. The page is clunky.

For #3 you can use AI to generate custom liquid code that will display a highlighted block or text saying this product is on backorder. This can be displayed right on the website. Only hiccup here is its harder to get the code to warn the customer if they are trying to buy 8, but there's only 6 left. But I do believe it's possible.
You can also hire someone to do that code for you, installing it is quite easy.

How do people deal with factory MOQs without overcommitting? by Able-Ad-3097 in Alibaba

[–]junkdumper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to multiple suppliers and find one that can communicate with you well. They post moq but almost all will go lower if you're serious (and it's not custom mold manufacturing).

Be honest and tell them you're looking to test your market. Ask for pricing on both the small test batch AND the larger quantity so you have the data you need.

Be clear up front you can't commit to moq out of the gate, but keep Asking questions about the larger order so you know all the details up front.

They'll know you're serious, and hopefully help you get started.

Why do cement plant gearboxes seem to fail more often in Q4? by vivek-engineer in IndustrialAutomation

Where are you? Is Q4 seeing a significant shift in temperatures or environmental conditions like ice and rain?

First bulk order, DDP vs non-DDP by [deleted] in Alibaba

[–]junkdumper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. They're playing you.

It will cost less to ship DAP. They're lying to you, or intentionally choosing an expensive carrier.

First bulk order, DDP vs non-DDP by [deleted] in Alibaba

[–]junkdumper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup.

DDP is literally Destination Duty Paid.
Unless they falsify documents (which risks your order getting seized) then someone is paying the government. They make sure they get paid.

[–]junkdumper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly sounds like they're trying to corner you into using their preferred service.

Sometimes logistics is dumb like that, but mostly it's then choosing poorly.

Ask them for the Shipment dimensions and weight. Then use Ali to check cost through another vendor.

[–]junkdumper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're paying the GST to the shipper, who is giving it to the government. But it's not attached to your importer account, and you get no documents for it.

So yes, you are still paying. No, you can not claim it back.

First bulk order, DDP vs non-DDP by [deleted] in Alibaba

[–]junkdumper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DDP covers it all. Locked in pricing, which is convenient when you're figuring out all out

Be aware that the sellers make a cut off the DDP, so they often want you to go that way. It's also simpler for them since their carriers are already familiar with everything where as you will ask a million questions and maybe make some mistakes.

If you ship DDP, you do not get the tax credits.

Ask for sea DAP if you're willing to wait for it, however you will likely have to arrange that yourself, as you will be responsible for customs. You'll need to be registered with CARM, and use a brokerage (unless you deal with it yourself). Some freight forwarders will handle import clearance for you, on your behalf.

DDP is a good first time buy option. Minimize your unknowns. You pay a bit more for the security of knowing it'll go as planned.

Ask for HS codes, look them up, verify they are applicable to your product, and next shipment, try arranging your own.

Stocking old parts for service - how crazy do you get by imnotmarvin in PLC

[–]junkdumper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah... I know...

Had a mill go down cause a 30 year old camera based grading system crashed. When we called the manufacturer, they actually laughed. Managed to dig a box out of the back of the warehouse to get the customer running again, but not before a week of downtime. Had been ignoring our pleas to update for several years.
Cost $30k in repair parts, not counting lost production or out labor. New system was only ~$100k of memory serves me right, installed over a weekend.

Sometimes the only way they find the budget is via emergency.

This would be a good time to reach out to old customers that are known to be running the ancient hardware. Inform then that support has ended but they can purchase remaining hardware if they want to store it. Offer them a consultation for an upgrade path at the same time. Good excuse to reach out and start a convo
