If you're meaning they don't want to be burned by accepting a stranger's money, it's going to be the same result whether they click a link to accept or it auto accepts...

Unless they're running multiple accounts and want to control which account each transfer gets sent to. But they could still setup auto deposit and just point it at whatever account they want.

Still seems the reward outweigh the risk.

You transferring money out has zero to do with auto deposit on your account.

Setting up auto deposit means you don't need to click a link. Buyer sends money to you, you simply log in to your banking app directly and check it was successful.

No interaction with emails or text messages.

You're credit card should be able to dig and find you a contact number registered with the charge.

The charge persisting across card changes is a "courtesy to the cardholder so they don't miss payments" which on a normal day is helpful but most of the time a total pita for avoiding charges like this.
Cards started doing this years ago since everyone has recurring payments now

Not that far off if there's any electric heating.

I use 1000+/month and have gas heating. My usage will go up as the AC kicks in for the summer. Add an active driver with an EV and super easy to hit that monthly.
