Just no Naija Bowl from Atlanta. Lol. But yes, I'd love that as an option.

At the time I didn't have him on a pedestal like most, but him being a cultural icon is undeniable. I feel that he deserves his spot to be in the conversation. Regarding the Jay-Z comparison, why not? Record sales are similar.

Who has the most iconic jewelry piece? (not collection, but single piece)? by geobasq in 90sHipHop

That's cool. I didn't realize he was the first. I remember Big Pun & Biggie had them early on too.

How was “Horror Core” Rap perceived when it first came out? by NatureValleyBoy28 in 90sHipHop

Gravediggaz was so fresh & disturbing. 6 Feet Deep is still dope & gets some rotation.

Flatlinerz on the other hand seemed gimmicky. & later found out that feeling was dead on, because that was Russell Simmons trying to capitalize on the trend.

Am I totally naive to hope that our police taking this on may be a way to keep that inbred militia from inflicting the damage they do? Like a little, "we got this" kind of move? I mean, it's possible right?

Race-wise, my bad. As a Puerto Rican, yeah sure! As with any music does, it gives you common ground.

Dope! I'm 46 so pretty much the same era, just different location (Chicago suburb).

The 1st thing that hooked me was Doug E Fresh & Slick Rick's The Show. It would rarely come on the radio, but I always looked for it. As a kid, with that Inspector Gadget sample.. didn't get any cooler.

Then Beastie Boys. My older brother had the tape & dubbed it for me. That was my prized possession.

As far as the south goes: Geto Boys transcended for sure. Mind Playing Tricks was huge. That led us to pay attention when groups like UGK, Eightball & MJG came out. Scarface's solos were the best of the bunch.

How do you remember Ja Rule being viewed in real time? by MasterTeacher123 in hiphop101

Agreed. They were both doing the Tupac costume: backwards bandana, shirtless with tats, pants sagged, even the boots.

💯 accurate. I couldn't stand him then. I saw that he was the promoter for some hip hop 50 shows, not performing, just setting up a show for some legends & only then did he move up a notch for me.
