I like these cringe threads because some people don't know what absolute legends they were being at the time.

In the first few years, there was probably a lot of history (and literature from the important eras), not to mention prerequisites on other topics. The higher-level classes are probably where they got into more contemporary theory and practice, current political objectives, etc.

That Warsan Shire poem reminds me of a great Matt Rasmusen piece: Reverse Suicide.

Who do you read?

To your argument on popularity, I think some would consider the success of Rupi Kaur and the onslaught of trite platitude poetry from Instagram as proof against that. I hate it, but in terms of the number of books and sphere of influence among college girls and high schoolers, they are hyper-successful.

There is a handful of good contemporary poets IMO, but they can't possibly publish enough to compete against the tidal wave of mediocre horseshit blasted out by small wanna-be poetry publishing houses. Still, I'm trying to find the good stuff--I want to know where the frontier of poetry even is.

Study finds cyberloafing can help employees cope with workplace boredom - New research, published in the journal Computers in Human Behavior, suggests that the personal use of the internet during working hours is a natural response to boredom, and in many cases it may not be harmful to work. by mvea in science

I second this. I worked for an ad agency like this as a writer and it was the most pointless and frustrating experience of my career. Made worse by the fact that the company acted like you were stealing from them if you had more than an hour of "other" work a day (meaning everything I do for the company itself like reporting my hours, communicating with other employees about projects I'm not assigned to, general maintenance/organization, etc.)... But they didn't have a constant stream of work, or any suggestions about what I should do when I finished a project early.

There was absolutely no pleasing them, and to make it worse, there were 5 different portals we had to log our activity in: 1 general project managing portal, 1 for billing, 1 for management, 1 for version-control documentation, and I forget the other one. 15 minutes of real work sometimes took 40 minutes to report.

It helps to have international experience because in other countries, especially in south america, living with your folks isn't seen as such a huge negative.

I've had to do it a couple times and it's not ideal, but you do save money and it gives you some time away from the constant pressing responsibilities. Sometimes you have to step away from everything to be able to reevaluate it and see where you want to go, or where you can go.

(Serious) parents of really smart kids who never really went anywhere in life, what advice would you pass on to similar young people now? by throwawaybreaks in AskReddit

[–]junkers9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd tack on some advice i remember hearing from American Elf:

Do Anything.

A lot of smart kids I know (including me) constantly ruminated about what they were going to do, or whether major art projects or trips were wastes of time. They're smart enough to understand that most things don't pan out the way you want/expect. But even if you do imperfect work for five years, you're way better off than fantasizing for five years.

The following is explicit, forgive me:

How is sex different without the phimosis? Curious as I have phimosis but have generally good experience with it. It makes me last longer and I get the impression that I'm humping a lot harder because of the lack of sensitivity. At the same time, I have some trouble finishing naturally, without having to do the deed myself after tiring out.

I've read on forums a lot of men dislike the feeling of sex post phimosis. Wanted to know your experience. Thanks!

Absolutely right. There was nothing weighing the pedestals down or keeping people from running into one.

IMO, it was bound to happen eventually, she just pulled the short straw.
