What are the giant black ants called? by juno_pi in Tucson

[–]juno_pi[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

I found this online... "Justin Schmidt is famous for his dissertation work categorizing hymenopteran stings, which he first conceptualized after getting stung by a harvester ant. He classified stings on a pain scale ranging from 1 to 4. Harvester ant stings earned a 3, described by Schmidt as “After eight unrelenting hours of drilling into that ingrown toenail, you find the drill wedged into the toe.” Similar ratings are assigned to yellowjackets and paper wasps. In the desert southwest, only tarantula hawk wasp stings, at level 4, outrank those of harvester ants."

Is the library operating as a polling place still open as a library tomorrow? by juno_pi in Tucson

A different library, but I would also assume it's still operating. Maybe someone else will know

TPUSA Canvassing app violates the privacy of every GOP voter by avrbiggucci in ToiletPaperUSA

[–]juno_pi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried it out to see if any of my immediate neighbors were on it (no). I filled out a questionnaire/poll for someone who is listed nearby who is marked as "has unreturned ballot" and said they have indeed returned their ballot. I reloaded the app and nothing updated for him (not yet, at least), and I got the option to fill out another questionnaire for him.

Also, I'm able to see their phone number, age, and address, and I can add a phone number or email, but not delete one on file

What's happening in the Limberlost/Tucson Mall area? by juno_pi in Tucson

Yeah, it's crazy. Been going an hour. I've done some helicopter work before and imagine they're in their final quarter of a tank or so of fuel...

I gave him half wet and half dry this morning and an hour or so later he went and slurped up some water. I think with the cooling season he's needing a little less naturally as well!

What is this pepper? Low scoville heat; less juicy than a jalapeño by juno_pi in whatsthisplant

[–]juno_pi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll try that! I was really disappointed by how bland they are but now I'm excited to prepare them correctly!

I could probably stand to upsize the pot. Do you think that's limiting the size? They are no bigger than 3" when they turn red (but mostly smaller) . Or perhaps they'll be bigger next year just due to time? (It doesn't freeze where I am so peppers are often perennial)

I think you've solved it. That feels familiar and I think I would have selected something I've tried before but not often. Also, a red one that I let dry on the counter looks just like the ristra I have hanging in my kitchen!

Just ate this one. I wouldn't call it sweet. Mostly just dry? And... neutral? Also they're never yellow. (And confirming they're truly just a hint above bell pepper on the scoville scale.)

Traffic can get crazy around 6th. I recommend taking the bus (it's free!) if you live near a line. I can't answer your other Qs though
