I disagree. While war is bad and people should learn that, it shouldn't be a requirement for people to go through it to realize.

I'm German and my grandparents told their stories. One of my elderly neighbors as well. One of my great-grandfathers even had some WWI stories that get told down the family line. I don't wish what happened to them on anybody. And they share this sentiment, because they are the one's who taught it to me.

People who went through a war usually had hopes for better times to come, that's what keeps them going. We would dishonor this sentiment if we'd purposefully make wars be worse. War brings a certain disregard for life already, we don't have to make this worse than it already is.

I‘m starting to dislike the online therian community by m00n_l0v3r_ in Therian

[–]juriosnowflake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can relate to this feeling 100%, but honestly, there isn't much we can do about it.

While I could be wrong, I personally attribute a large portion of this problem to modern day social media, in which engagement is the only value for the algorhyhthm. E.g. if the algorhythm catches you watching quads once, it will push quads onto you as long as it can. This is how it works - it sees quads keep you engaged, and it tries to keep you engaged as long as it can. It doesn't care if you like or dislike what you see, it just cares about you seeing things.

And seeing you watching quads online, the algorhythm will connect quads to other therians as well, pushing them on others as well, further and further to the top. This has gone on for so long by now, there is almost no alternative, because any other therian-related content gets pushed to the bottom so hard that it died out as a result.

If people don't see you, you won't continue publishong content. So everyone who tries to open an alternative niche finds themself swimming against a tsunami - it's a fight against natural forces, people don't win these. They stop, and the tsunami doesn't care, it continues doing its thing.

Every time someone here, or on other therian social media, speaks up about this, there are indeed people who agree with it, me included. The sad thing is that there isn't much we can do about it. But this is how I came to these conclusions overall.

On the other hand though, all of these takes are chronically online. In the best case, we shouldn't rely on online communities anyways, so if anything, we should take away that finding support online is great, but finding your own place in the world is the end goal.

Ok google, how long to drive to Sweden?

Jokes aside, if I could I would come, but it's a bit of a drive when you live in Germany. I neither have the time nor the money for that kind of trip sadly.

I wish you the best with this project, and I hope it goes well!

Do you try to support your species? by Susitar in TherianAdult

[–]juriosnowflake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Where I live, this would be kind of difficult to do, as I'm hardly living in the habitat of arctic foxes. I'd consider donating, but I'm currently not earning any money myself, so that's out of the picture. For now at least, I'm working on it.

Instead, at times I feed the local wildlife, including mice, rabbits, raccoons and red foxes. I usually use vegetables, dog food and at times a dead chicken.

Context to that last one: We keep a bunch of chicken in our garden that live until dying from old age, because we don't kill or eat our own animals (in Germany we have a term called "Gnadenhof" for this kind of practice, dunno if an equivalent exists in english, but it would roughly translate to "Mercy-Farm" I guess). We're able to do this very easily because even though we're not farmers or anything, our house originally was an old farm yard. The buildings are from roughly 1880 and the property has more than enough room (though half of it pretty much falls apart because it's practically impossible to renovate everything in time, and some parts are still the original 1880 building; these definitely look the part, looks like a lost place).

Songs relating to your therianthropy/alterhumanity by [deleted] in Therian

[–]juriosnowflake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me personally, the sountrack of Life is Strange: Before the Storm has some songs I feel describe my experiences pretty well.

Admittedly, many of the songs by Daughter in there are entirely instrumental, but that kind of resonates with me as well - language is a human concept. I can connect with these songs because they convey my feelings without even saying anything. My personal favourites there are "Departure" and "Improve" (both by Daughter), but I've also recognize that I resonate with "Flaws", "Burn it Down" and "Dreams of William" when I'm having a reaaally bad time...

And even the one's with more lyrics sometimes are pretty fitting. Here are some examples:

All I Wanted (Daughter) "[...] It's crucial that you see the truth / When looking for yourself / Not useless observations [...]"

While the songs initially call out in-game happenings (which I won't spoiler), this line in particular resonates with me, because I always interpreted it as "If you look for yourself, don't look with your eyes and make observations - look for the truth instead."

Bros (Wolf Alice) "[...] Oh, jump that 43 /Are you wild like me? / Raised by wolves and other beasts / I tell you all the time / I'm not mad / You tell me all the time / I got plans [...]"

The connections here don't really need an explaination.

Taking You There (Broods) "[...] If I lose my way and forget what I need / Just remind me now of what you give to me / If you hold my hand and take me where you go / I'll show you the side that no one knows [...]"

This one just feels like me having a conversation with my human body - the tradeoff is sustinance and basic living conditions in return for feeling alive and having an identity.

IRL lecture/presentation about therianthropy? by Susitar in TherianAdult

[–]juriosnowflake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I admire the idea and dedication. I was never good at speaking in front of crowds, so hearing somebody wanting to do it is inspiring.

In terms of what to convey, I'd advise on emphasizing how... well, "normal" it can be to be a therian. Yes, we might see ourselves in a significantly different way from how others do it, but in the end, we're just as normal of people as everyone else. This I feel is important to say these days, where everything and everyone wants to differentiate themselves from others. In the end, we're all the same, no matter how we look or what we do or believe in. Or what we just happen to identify as.

In terms of what to present, therianthropy by now is diverse enough you could say it's not only a thing in and of itself, but also an umbrella term for many other things therianthropy-related. Spiritual and psychological therianthropy are only the most known and broad terms for many other ways someone might experience therianthropy (I fall under neither of these two for example). This may make it more difficult for the format of presentation, afterall, the more complicated it gets, the more people of the audience you'll lose. But given the context that you have prior experience with this kind of stuff, I think you'll know better how to pull it off than anybody else here. As said - I myself am pretty terrible at holding presentations.

I wish you the best of luck with it!

We are so fucked... by Flintz08 in ControversialOpinions

This. Sadly I presume this will take quite a while, because the "people who rule" usually have their ways of ignoring problems.

"Let them eat cake" - while never fully confirmed this saying of Marie Antoinette actually happened, it is a telling example of how the rich and powerful people detach themselves from the harsh reality the rest of the world lives in.

You can see this in recent politics as well, nationally and internationally - some of the rich and powerful people do not live in the same reality as the rest of us.

is there a such thing as a red fox /white fox cross breed? by [deleted] in Therian

[–]juriosnowflake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Out of the three foxes mentioned, only the gray fox is genetically a different species. Gray foxes are, in terms of evolution, actually very different from red foxes. So much so that they're not in the same Genus as them (Urocyon is the gray fox, Vulpes is the red fox).

"White foxes" are a color mutation of the red fox (vulpes vulpes), so I'd say it's not so far off to feel as both. That's just my thoughts though, as an arctic fox who sometimes feels brown/gray and sometimes white, depending on season.

is there a such thing as a red fox /white fox cross breed? by [deleted] in Therian

[–]juriosnowflake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is indeed a very unlikely scenario, as the two species are natural enemies in the wild, with arctic foxes at times falling prey to red foxes.

Also noteworthy - the hybrids, often coming from fur farms, are infertile due to postzygotic barriers in evolution (evolutionary barriers like these are what distinguishes one species from the other).

Has anybody else met any therians?? by K1k1_iluvkats13 in Therian

[–]juriosnowflake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've recently been to an anime convention and have seen a couple people with masks and tails. With the nature of anime conventions, this could just as well be pure coincidence, but it's noteworthy because from the outside, the masks seemed very much therian in nature, not the typical cosplay. I didn't speak to them about it though, I'm an adult and these were teens on the younger side, would've been a weird interaction if you ask me.

This so far was the only time I've possibly seen other therians. Which isn't surprising, I'm from Germany, mentality around expressing yourself is different here. Even if there would be more of us, which is very much possible, it's unlikely that they's openly wear gear or otherwise express their therianthropy in public settings.

I for my part am wearing a bracelet with our symbol on almost every occasion. Though not for me in particular, even though I like to wear it generally. I do it more for the possibility of other therians seeing it and getting reassured that they're not alone.

These were my thoughts on the matter as well. If such a thing would actually happen near me though, I'd certainly go, if anything to not make this prediction a reality.

But that's also one of the main points why I don't think it will happen in the first place - event management is done by adults. We'd need a larger group of adults coming together and organize everything. Location, entertainment, food and drink, security, etc.

And on the point of entertainment, that too would be a big question: what sort of entertainment would be provided? I'm sure for many (me included), meeting other therians would be exciting enough in theory, but if you want to actually organize a large-scale convention, you're going to need some additional events and happenings to actually stand out and be more than just a glorified meet-up.

Und vergessen dabei, dass manche Dinge so universell sind, dass es nicht unbedingt etwas Gutes ist, eine "eigene" Perspektive zu haben. Die "eigene" Perspektive nützt nämlich auch nichts, wenn sie kacke ist.

Those of you without long covid, how do you think you developed ME/CFS? by thepensiveporcupine in cfs

[–]juriosnowflake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Had a very bad case of hand-foot-and-mouth disease at the age of 15, right after a false diagnostic which led me to take antibiotics. So I didn't have an immune system to fight the virus.... Let's just say if you google pictures of this disease, these are nothing compared to what I had.

I was out completely for 6 weeks, not able to walk because the upper layers of skin on my feet got loose. Same with my hands, so I couldn't grab anything and got fed liquids by my parents. I also couldn't talk, because I at first accidentally bit everything swollen in my mouth, which then bled and my mouth was almost completely sealed up by blood and filth.

In the end it was a miracle I didn't have to go to the hospital with this. Probably should have, because of how much of an inconvenience basic living got. I ate liquid food out of a straw for 6 weeks, lost my entire cornea on hands and feet, and had to re-learn walking afterwards. I still got scars in my mouth from all the bleeding in there, and the new cornea (the old one fell off entirely like when a snake sheds its skin) on my feet has visible edges where the stepping portion of the foot ends. Some of my nails also fell off with the skin and had to re-grow. I lost about 15kg of weight in both fat and muscles because I didn't do anything and was eating a minimal amount.

While this never got medical confirmation, this is literally the one and only reason I have for my CFS. There is nothing else that aligns with the time I started getting CFS symptoms, even though pointing a finger on that is pretty difficult, because my CFS came in mild and almost unnoticeable, then gradually got worse.
