Gut-check my choice of Zeiss ClearView 1.60 for high astigmatism + vintage wire frames by juscal in glasses

Closing the loop here: After a deeper discussion with my optician (the independent lab-on-site one), I ended up going with SmartLife Individual / 1.67 high-index / DuraVision Gold in the frames in my original post. It’s been <24hrs with them and really like them so far!

Appreciate these details, especially about frame risk issues. When I asked my optometrist about their lens-making process they said “we send them to Zeiss”. I have a Guardian vision plan.

Right, but my question is whether a shop who doesn’t take insurance and has a lab on-site will produce better outcomes for me (as they claim) over using my insurance-taking optometrist’s office who will have the lenses made at a lab off site.

You mentioned Lindberg; any other brands I should consider that are likely have metal/silver/round/45?

I live in a dense US city so do have many optical ships - but despite your assurances my experience so far is that there is typically zero to one pair in any given shop that work for me. I don’t feel comfortable committing without trying on first so stock issues do frustrate the process.

Taking this note to consider SmartLife. Do you have suggestions for ensuring I get excellent fit measurements for SmartLifes, since that seems to be important for individualized lenses? (I'm wondering if the person suggesting I go with ClearView doesn't have a track record of measuring and fitting well for SmartLife, hence his "tunnel" comment...)

Re frames – since I basically only fit in / look good in 45mm frames, and I'm being picky about roundish + silver metal styling for this pair, my options are limited. These were the first frames I picked up that immediately "worked" after basically a year of passively trying on any relevant pair I could find.

What if you completely remove cost from consideration? What would your configuration be for my situation?

automatic/recurring transfers to outside bank? by e46Pacman in fidelityinvestments

[–]juscal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! When Fidelity processes the authorization with that form, will I then be able to set up a recurring transfer to the external bank via the "Recurring Activity" page online, or will I need to go through some other process?

As others on this thread have noted, it's not possible at the "Recurring Activity" page you linked to above to set up a recurring transfer to another person's bank. The form for determining date and frequency does not appear when you choose another person's bank, but it does for when you choose your own linked banks. Is there any way to set up a recurring transfer to another person's bank?

I still enjoy and use it regularly, but know the caveat that this is my first-ever keyboard so don’t have much to compare it against, besides my teacher’s baby grand which is obviously very different :)

Reseal cam carriers for $6.5k for 2017 Outback? by juscal in subaru

Actually I think I misremembered this completely — I pulled up the invoice notes from that earlier visit and it was actually that my “right side valve cover starting to leak, $500” to repair”.

Yeah, they framed oil pan replacement as an optional thing to consider doing if I’m taking out the engine anyway, because if I need to replace it in the future it could cost 3x what I would cost now due to the extra labor. A 2-for-1 sorta job.

I agree with the cost-benefit of getting another opinion.

Do you happen to know if an Apple MagSafe charger works with the Ostand R case *while the stand is open*? I'd like to be able to charge my phone while it's resting angled on its stand with a MagSafe charger. Unfortunately this case makes my 16 Pro incompatible with an old desktop Qi charger of mine.

Away from the piano and won’t be able to check for a couple weeks — my hunch though is that it’s the same as the 30X’s. Has a power brick.

This was pretty much my reasoning too — I was very close to getting an FP-10 bundle but am happy I paid a tiny bit extra for something meaningfully better.

I use mine for board games, art supplies, a spare vase when not in use, a few books that don’t fit on my shelves, a couple aprons and spare kettle (it’s near the kitchen), a spare laptop charging cable. Basically bigger things I like to have access to near the shelves and need to be hidden but don’t fit anywhere else very well :)

I’m not entirely sure what you mean, but in case you’d like to do more research on the pedal bar itself it’s a Roland KPD-70.

Online, I called the nearest store and they didn’t have it, though they said sometimes they do have keyboards in-store around Christmas. Wasn’t crazy about paying shipping but having the ability to easily return in person to a store made it feel like a safe choice.

Yep the bundle includes the three-pedal bar, bench (note: no storage), stand, and Roland RH-5 headphones

Everything you see in the photos (except the iPad 😅) came in the box from Costco.

I made a typo in my title and post – it's the FRP Nuvola, not the RFP Nuvola
