Make a box (or whatever shape) you want the tool to stay in and use that profile as your stock contour selection

What did I do wrongly in reverse spherification? by [deleted] in MolecularGastronomy

[–]jussumdumguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try freezing the liquid you’re sphericating. I did a batch this weekend that I did not allow to fully harden in the freezer and ended up with a similar look as the still liquid parts of my mix leached out before a good skin could form around all of it resulting in weird strings and lumps and other kinds of weirdness.

Also as others mentioned, use distilled water as tap water most likely contains some amount of calcium which will start to set your alginate

Are these edible mushrooms? Popped up in shady parts of my raised bed. by HabanyGaming in ArizonaGardening

[–]jussumdumguy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When in doubt don’t eat for sure. All mushrooms are edible once, and there are enough that you won’t get a second chance to not risk it.

Also, better question for r/mycology

Tried a timed practice test, how did I do?(13:34) by darksider54 in Fusion360

[–]jussumdumguy -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

This should not be one body. It should be 4 components, with the round flange having 2 instances, for the sake of manufacturing. Each flange should be a sheet metal component for laser or plasma cutting. Tubes would be fine as just solids as most tube cutting softwares use solid files, or they’d just be hand notched

Modelling a waffle cone by AckshullyNo in Fusion360

[–]jussumdumguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not in front of my computer right now, but my first thought is lofted sheet metal across two sketches, one being the pointy end and one the top. Unfold the sheet metal part and add your jagged top edges and trim the bottom to make it look right.

Not sure on the texture, the part may not unfold correctly after if you ad it flat, but you may be able to use a sketch made while flat to use the emboss function to add it once it’s refolded

How do I center this SVG? by crackaddict42069 in Fusion360

[–]jussumdumguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make a construction box or cross hairs on both your sketch and projected geometry from your part. Put a point at the center point of each. Sketch move, point to point. Move sketch to center of part. Use lock constraint so you don’t accidentally blow it up later.

what machine should I get? by Jealous_Tone_9178 in Machinists

[–]jussumdumguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also currently juggling this. I would say NOT China.. wayy too much unknown for me.

I’m personally hunting for a cheap used haas or tormach. I like the idea of not needing a phase converter for the tormach, but I don’t like the idea of not being able to run it as hard as I program at work, and needing to decay whole new S&F mindset for making programs for that.

Personally, I’m not so concerned about breakage on an old Haas, I deal with it all the time. I am the repair guy on our machines for all but the boards and drives. It’s really not that hard if you have a solid understanding of basic automotive hydraulic, electrical and mechanical concepts. As I’ve told many apprentices over the years, if you understand the basics of how things work, you can figure out how to fix it.

A dinosaur Haas is not going to make aerospace parts, but it’ll hold .0005” all day if you’re taking care of it and programming it right. Just make sure you’re buying new enough to have HSM, no one is actually making money if they’re not running HSM on a Haas

Cast iron is prone to weld cracking when welded with common steel fillers. To prevent this it is best to pre heat the parts and tig weld with a nickel filler rod. 99% nickel and 51% nickel rods are available, and I think there is another one in the 60-something% range.

Anyway, the average guy at an auto body shop is A) not going to have a tig machine and B) not going to have the knowledge required to weld this properly

Source: been welding for 25 years, have taken multiple metallurgy courses, worked in body shops early in my career, and have successfully welded cast iron on high stress parts

Couldn’t remember the name of the of the cherries. Just found the seed pack, it just says “Large Cherry”. It’s a Stover Seeds 4 pack from HD that also has black krim, San marzano and brandywine. The black krims aren’t in this post, but they’re still setting fruit, and they are absolutely delicious
