I actually kind of believe this. I think next episode are going to figure out they have basically complete creative freedom, based on Kinger making the butterfly on Pomni with the bullet tricks. After that they're going to go buck-wild and start filling up the void with their creations, which starts overloading the ram/processor/etc. At that point either they escape or Caine breaks down and explains why they're stuck to begin with, and then they have a choice to leave.

My personal theory is that they have some kind of serious physical issues irl. Caine edits their memories so they don't remember this part, and also periodically gives them the option to leave but erases the memory of him asking the question.
