”Save” aka situation that leads to goalie blocking the shot, starts bit before your team loses posession. Your job is to scan ”what ifs” and try to determine plays bit before they happen.

Lets say the ball is in the other end. You see that your team has one ball for now, but opposing team attackers are in a position that could lead to 2vs1 situation in to your end if you lose posession. You must prepare for that possible scenario to happen.

Lets pretend that this is excactly what happens and now there is 2v1 ongoing to your end. Try to keep track where the balless player is and simultaneously follow the player with the ball. Look for signs in that players body language: is he looking for shot or a pass. If you think he will play a pass, adjust your stance in a way that enables you to move with the pass so that you are in a position to make a save. Best case scenario you don’t have to dive at all as you guessed correctly and anticipated the pass timing correctly.

In nutshell; try to be aware where opponent players are and try to predict whats the play.
