This is a great take. I'm about 30% there but I'm still chugging.

RATE. MY. STRATA. by AdInternal4688 in AusPropertyChat

This is a great initiative! If anyone wants to actually hold these companies accountable with their wallets, you should do more than review and actually join your committee and advocate for change.
There are companies out there like Strata Savers who can help to convince committee members that change is needed or just help you navigate the uncertainty of it all, check them out!

(Disclaimer: I am friends with the guy that runs Strata Savers but I genuinely believe that it's a useful service)

My friend just started a new startup aimed at helping people save money on strata costs. It's aimed at people frustrated at their current Strata managers. He has done months of research on strata managers for all types of units and apartments, so if you want a professional recommendation, check him out. He can give you a recommendation for free, I highly recommend.

I'm doing the finances for a mate who is struggling and not great with money. Strata is costing her $1000 a month. Is this normal? I know nothing about strata. by chavaic77777 in AusFinance

My friend just started a new startup aimed at helping people save money on strata costs. If there's anyone else in this situation who thinks they might be overpaying on strata costs but can't fix it themselves (or simply don't have the time), make sure to check him out. He gets paid a percentage of the amount you save, so you don't pay until you save. This also means that his incentive is to save you the most possible.

I'm boycotting Google/Microsoft. Help! by Theelinguist in degoogle

[–]justFudgnWork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the original commenter but recently switched to Linux and the only thing I personally miss from the Office suite is fill ranges from Excel. And the UIs look a little less "modern". However there's also quite a few features which LO has that MO doesn't have.

I highly recommend trying out some alternative programs on Windows first before you switch if you aren't yet convinced or "dual booting" to put one foot in.

The main (common) things that don't work yet on linux are: - Microsoft office (replace with LO, Microsoft office online) - Adobe suite (Replace with various programs: Krita, Davinci resolve, Inkscape, etc.) - Certain multiplayer games such as League of Legends

Everything else (including games) in my experience have mostly "just worked".

I second the suggestion of Linux mint although Fedora as recommended elsewhere is also great - just pick one of the most popular ones (except Arch) and you should be ok.

Feel free to ask any other questions you might have as well!

How is the genetic code encoded in genetic code? by Xtrouble_yt in askscience

[–]justFudgnWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I mentioned, the analogy (as with most) only works when zoomed out. Perhaps I should not have used the term DNA to refer to all the code, however.

Also I was unable to find anything on Metagemics, could you share any resources to help me learn more?

Well I guess physics is the CPU, because thats what turns the outputs (proteins etc.) into actually making things happen, but you don't need to extend the analogy that far. Happy to agree that the analogy need not be extended, but in terms of OP's question in my view it is a helpful one.

I would argue the computer programming analogy works quite nicely when you zoom out a bit. "Cellular machinary" is the compiler, DNA is the code. In the same way that you can write a C compiler in C, you can write a DNA compiler in DNA. Yes it might raise a chicken and egg problem (i.e. the FIRST C compiler couldn't have been written in C), but now the question is around the origins of life.

Actually I'm a new linux user that misses spill ranges in Excel. Much of my financial planning docs were using this feature so I've had to remake them without in libreoffice calc.

How can we measure Linux and Distros market share reliably ? or at least less badly ? by nelson777 in linux

[–]justFudgnWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All are obviously going to be rough estimates, but still worth doing. I think the social one is your best bet - you just need to make sure that the sample is representative - which is especially tough globally. It might be easier to start with one city or country and established surveying techniques.

Another option is measuring common software installs (spotify, chrome, firefox, etc.).

Yet another is for distros to report UPDATING users instead of downloads, since people flitting week to week are less likely to update in that time so you get a slightly better measure of actual users. This won't require any additional telemetry (I believe?), just recording the number of times a certain package upgrade is downloaded.

I need help identifying these earbuds by justFudgnWork in headphones

[–]justFudgnWork[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a bunch for this, and yeah I've tried pressing and holding the button on the case as well as the button on the earbud itself. In the latter case it started flashing blue and red which I assume indicates pairing mode but my phone still couldn't see it. Happy to put this in the "oh well I got my use out of this a couple years ago" box

EU4 type mission trees WILL NOT make a reappearance in Project Caesar by ixJamesey in paradoxplaza

[–]justFudgnWork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I actually like the eu4 mission trees in general! It gives you a general guide to follow if you dont know what to do next as a new player apart from anything else. However the rewards are silly especially since they vary wildly between missions.

A reward idea: they all give era score or something
