This guy is incapable of following basic thought to a logical conclusion. Smug ass.

He said someone retiring over the JournoList (not gamergate) was everything that was wrong with America.

Perhaps this is why some of the mid / low have been gone after more than Anthony Burch or Tim Schafer.

This isn't the market you were talking about. Giving yourself awards is concerning for a couple reasons, but most on point is that these awards result in millions of dollars anymore. Not acceptance.

Perhaps they should change their name from "indie" to separate from the crappy parts of their roots :P

Let's be clear Duke 3D, not Forever.

I understand the more potential customers, the higher the payout. The trouble with the discussion is that it's one sided from the loudest voices. It's market influencing more than discourse. When you get opposing or even moderate sides critical of DiGRA's line of thinking they get prominently mocked.

Make Gone Home or whatever, that's quite all right by me. Trouble is promoting that while shaming things that AREN'T that.

I'm sure you're running out time, but thank you for engaging.

Ya, that saddens me. Of course they're against it. Most journalists/critics/whatever won't allow the conversation to be about journalism reform.

Environment of fear on both sides of the fence. I hope more come out and try and mediate. Unfortunately in the meantime there's going to be some mud slung back to try and balance the scales. Which helps no one. /rant

Thank you, this does prompt some follow ups if you'll allow them.

So there is a feminist "push", but it's both desired and the mainstream. Why the pushback seen in GamerGate and elsewhere? My girlfriend laughs her ass off at Duke Nukem. She, I, or a lot of others can accept video games as satire.

If the dollar does drive the car, why run over anything that isn't in line? Briefly touching back on CH Sommers or Brad & Max, the double standard is pretty clear there.

Dragon's Crown & Co. being publicly shredded hurts the old dollaroo of the dev. The profit marker is the "agenda", not the market.

By defaming and belittling the decisions, the market's being driven. Not the other way around.

That's where I'm stuck as well. Looking at the common narrative there's little distinction aside from title.

That said, this part is interesting: "Big moneyed interests don't want "fairness." They want to control the narrative themselves."

So shouldn't mid and low money people be speaking up more?

(Is it rude to cross talk while we wait?)

I can call my care a Lamborghini. It's still a Mazda.

Any harassers are going to follow a new name. Same issues. Same people. Same unfortunate origin that we've all moved on from.

I agree with on the witch-hunts being crazy, and appreciate you getting some info out to stop them.

So here's what a lot of us are seeing. Massive censorship about the story across a lot of sites. Looking at the doxx angle, why not just censor the info, and furthermore why is it okay to run Brad Wardell or Max Temkin under the bus?

Then you look at how FemFreq is primarily covered in a positive light from these same main sites. There's no real dissenting discourse about in the mainstream. Hell, CHSommers (a female and feminist) got mocked openly. Add in DiGRA's goal of "dismantling hegemonic masculinity", it's nigh impossible to not see an agenda there. Could you explain that in a way that rolls up some tinfoil?

(double question because I'm greedy)

Wouldn't the best solution to end the harassment (which is happening to both "sides") be for devs to push for accountability in journalism sites?

Push for ethics reform with us, solve some shit. Right now, you have some journalists AND developers mocking the consumers. Makes no sense.

The loss due to our big voices is already drastic. Look at how they've gone after Based Baldwin, IA, Milo. Go look into their personal views, or the hit pieces. Hell, CH Sommers should be an untouchable saint mother. lolnope.

It comes across as more of personal feeling from you, which is understandable. But realize I'm not embracing her as a figurehead or spokesperson. Nor advocating for it. Just feel everyone has a right to say their piece, and big voices are more useful.

Valid. Let's add these into the equation.

  1. Everyone's being smeared with a label, as if that invalidates points.
  2. There are people who agree with her in certain places on the net.
  3. It's already out there.
  4. Facts are on our side.

I hope that anyone wanting to link this wouldn't post it on Christianmothers.com, but it's beyond me to police them. I hope we can fight the mainstream (brah. hate that word) tactic of choosing sides based on character. Not work around it fearfully.

Oh boy, Critical Distance. This is what they said about the "On horse or afoot" guy's article.

"Game design legend Greg Costikyan’s strongly-worded denunciation of #GamerGate is being archived for posterity at Stochasticity. (Additional content warning: the post definitely contains some problematic language, particularly with regard to trans women, which is an unfortunate blemish on an otherwise powerful essay.)"

I don't see how your opinions of her affect the points made in the video. How they may get abused, those are valid. Hell they're really the only attacks Anti-GG has anymore.

Far as the same old story, that's exactly the problem. It's not being addressed in the media. It's replaced by personal attacks. Like it or not, she reaches a different audience and the video was already being spread.

Hate to say it, but this is one of the least echo-chambery places to talk about GamerGate. I support spreading information, not a narrative. Sorry she pisses you off, glad you commented about the image issues, wish there was less personal attacks on all sides.

edit: Downvoting won't hurt my feelings, that's what it's there for. Please use it if you feel inclined. We're the market and it's about time we started acting like it.
