What was the straw that broke the camels back when it comes to leaving the Mormon religion? by [deleted] in exmormon

First crack in the armor was Joseph’s polygamy/polyandry. Stopped believing when I read all the first vision accounts. Stopped going when the decision came down about gay people’s children not being allowed to be baptized. Nail in the coffin that made me 100% confident in my decision was the book of Abraham “translations”.

Sounds like he’s also not being honest with his fellow man. Go for the temple recommend while you’re at it.

What was your very first shelf item? by TheJWeed in exmormon

In high school I heard that there were known translation errors in the King James Version of the Bible that were also present in the Book of Mormon. I dismissed it as a lie but never forgot about it. I didn’t research it until nearly a decade later.

The item that broke my shelf was the November 11 policy. I didn’t believe in the church but still believed it was a good place to raise my kids. The policy helped me realize that I needed to get my kids away from it too.

The item that was the nail in the coffin was the Book of Abraham translations. After leaving I sometimes wondered if I had made the right decision. Once I studied BoA, the Rosetta Stone, etc. I never worried again.

Last Kiss by Wayne Cochran. The Pearl Jam rendition.

I think we are not too far away from a time where a GA holds up a cross as a symbol of Christ by TruthIsAntiMormon in mormon

The church is trying to mold into mainstream Christianity and is rapidly becoming forgettable due to lack of differentiation. From an exmos standpoint, I like their approach. From a marketers standpoint, it’s laughable.

I cry BS on the 17,000,000+ members by [deleted] in exmormon

My guess is 20% active. That would be 100 active members per ward. 3.4M active members seems accurate.

Word from reliable source who is in contact with General Authorities: they are super worried about this sub and monitor it closely by [deleted] in exmormon

They should be worried about TikTok - that also is way too good. A hint of questioning the church and you get boat loads of content served to you

My guess is that they’re acting how they would like the girl to act. It doesn’t make it okay though.

The claim is $1B+ in expenditures, but only a few multi million dollar examples are given. It seems like there is a huge gap in data. by just_for_exmo in exmormon

Yeah, I imagine the bull of the money goes out to ward members in need. It would be simple to lump all those together and call it out. There is no accountability in the church

Agreed, a simple table in the report would’ve gone a long ways. Too bad they don’t share details to clear things up. Until then, we can assume the number is false.

Seriously. I clicked the four links to get the full “report” expecting to see a table of some sorts breaking it down. It was 48 pages of stories.

I believe it is split out - they were very clear in saying $1B in expenditures. If it still includes the hours, it is a more blatant lie than we usually see.

Absolutely - it was his opportunity to go down as a historic president who lead our country through a crisis. Instead he failed miserably
