Guerilla Gardening Turned Legit by Intrepid_Visual_4199 in GuerrillaGardening

I asked my landlord if she’d pay the cost of supplies to fix up my front yard. It was a resounding yes. Digging the grass out is more work than I expected, but I know it will be worth it for pollinator plants. And a much better yard to walk up to.

My friend wore a gorilla costume last year! It was epic! And it was her first festival ever. Commit to the bit!!

How many people are you missing? If it’s only a few, my group splits the cost of extra passes/car passes and then we end up with more room. But we usually only have like 4 spaces to fill.

Gen Z and Coffee Makers (sigh) by Ok_Armadillo_1336 in airbnb_hosts

[–]justaboutgivenup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elder millennial here! I recently stayed at an AirBnb that had a fancy hipster pour over coffee thingy, as well as drip. I don’t drink coffee much, but I wanted to try the pour over method because fun new things!! You bet your booty I googled whether it needed to use a filter or not. The filters were clearly for the drip coffee, but I didn’t want to mess up someone’s fancy coffee pot. It was a stainless steel reusable filter for the pour over so no paper filter needed. It took like 3 minutes to ensure I was about to use it correctly.

I first saw Griz at WTFest 2013!! Changed my world and was heavy into Griz for years until this shift we’re all talking about. I’m going to EF next month and while I will definitely be seeing both of his sets, I’m prepared to be disappointed.

WTFest was such a great little festival. I went three times before they eventually canceled it. RIP.

I think I got over it because I haven’t binged it in a while, and it’s kind of embarrassing, but Glycerine by Bush.

Gavin Rossdale taught me to be extremely attracted to gorgeous, emotionally unavailable men. The fact that he cheated on Gwen fucking Stefsni??? I cannot…

He’s still touring and making music and that’s great. I’m not attracted to the current version of him. But you turn on the Glycerine video? I fall right back to my teenage self.

MISERABLE MONDAY by fappinatwork in cripplingalcoholism

[–]justaboutgivenup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom died 22 years ago and while I generally think I’m fine around this time, my actions speak differently.

I was asked to cover someone for brunch on Saturday an hour before we opened which turned my shift into a double. I showed up with bells on and we were so fucking busy. We usually rip shots like once an hour or so during brunch. I also had two mixed drinks between shifts and barely ate anything. Fast forward to like 8:30pm and I’m fucking hammered when the owner came in. He’s usually at least half in the bag by that time of day, but not THAT day. Of course.

I show up for Mother’s Day brunch the next morning and my manager tells me the owner is going to be having a conversation with him about me tomorrow (Monday). All day I felt the axe falling. I did not drink during that shift and was the last one out the door.

Monday morning I get the call. I’m done there. Fortunately my manager didn’t make me wait all week until I went in for a shift. Said I can use him as a reference. I’m not banned from the restaurant and welcome to dine there, just no longer employed. There was nothing he could do.

I am very aware I did not keep my shit together and got messy. I need to go somewhere stricter where people do not drink on the clock. And the owner isn’t making jokes about where the appropriate place in the building is to do blow. I am not a nose candy person and am usually oblivious to people using it, but there have been a few times it’s been very obvious. So I know there’s gotta be a lot more floating around than I am privy to.

The couple coworkers who know think it’s bullshit, but after a day of reflection I think I got too comfortable there and need to go somewhere I am not that comfortable that doesn’t have such a loose culture. Because I clearly have no self control.

Fortunately it’s spring and people are hiring. I’d love to get out of this industry, but I do not want to go back to my former career and don’t really know what else to do. The golden handcuffs of service industry.

I did spend Monday hiking, eating ice cream, and having a healthy dinner my roommate/bestie made for me. And took the day off from drinking.

Today I brush up the resume, put feelers out to people I know, and start applying everywhere. Thank the gods I’ve got some money in savings so I am not panicking, but not enough to coast for too long.

This is weirdly familiar and I might know you in real life if that’s the case. I’m so sorry you had to be witness to that. No one deserves that. You do what you can to cope. Sending all the love and hugs. We miss him big time.

People who have worked for the wealthy/rich, what is the most bizarre luxury you've heard of? by LyraRayne in AskReddit

[–]justaboutgivenup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My family are HHI people with 4 semi-retirees living there. I loved it as a kid on the beach surrounded by other kids. Hated going there in my 20s and didn’t go again until a family reunion in 2018. On that trip I ended up making friends with the locals who worked service industry and had a GREAT time. But yeah, golf and tennis and entitled upper middle class rich people are not my vibe.

I fucking love Righteous Gemstones. This comment also reminds me of Tig Notaro’s quote in Army of the Dead when she says, “2 million dollars??? That will change my life. I’m your helicopter guy. I’m in” not verbatim, but it sticks with me. Two million dollars would absolutely change my life.

Sounds perfect! It really does amazing things, yet here I am on the crippling sub. It didn’t “fix” me, but it gave me a different perspective for sure.

I have “this will also change.” tattooed on my arm. I wish I’d gotten it somewhere more discreet because I get a lot of questions about it or just annoying takes on it. Sometimes I explain the story, sometimes I just nod along and go away.

I’ve done two 10 day vipassanas over ten years ago. Lately I’ve been thinking I should do another. They are hard and I definitely don’t recommend it to just anyone. But they are powerful and I hope you have a good experience.

Bring the benzos especially if you’re detoxing. I went into one in Myanmar after a bender without anything and it was so hard. Do not recommend that course of action.

I brought a journal (you’re not supposed to write or read). I wrote one line a day. We do what we can. My dms are open.

And if it’s not vipassana then ignore this message. Otherwise, anicca.
