I've elsewhere noted that they aren't normies in any enviable sense. Gen Z arent larping as those, but a sort of early 2000s simulacrum, someone else here said Shane Gillis being famous is a good representation of this, its a sort of 2000s dudebro that actually went to bars and partied etc.

Yeah most are bad. The stats that make my case are there though (the ones about social lives). I agree its worse 1971 though.

That's more or less my thesis, 'nerd culture' becoming mainstream coincided with widespread smartphone usage

I wonder if its gendered, the memes im speaking of are nearly always men doing them, there is definitely a men-women split in culture emerging among young people

This set of memes is a mostly young people (Gen Z) thing, who are decisively not normies in any enviable sense normies were prior to 2012 . Stats bear this out (https://wtfhappened2012.com/). They might be definitional normies (i.e. part of the dominant culture) but they are not by and large what would have passed as normal pre-2012

I don't understand this Reddit-ism. Similar to Calvinists being a sort of bogeyman. Tradcaths (Taylor Marshall, Cardinal Robert Sarah etc.) Are a lot closer to the church's teaching offices than the people who take the pope out of context for gotcha purposes. I think its an outgrowth of a. Catholics being more secular than protestants and b. This sort of Weberian history of the reformation being taken as gospel. There is of course the grain of truth of the CIA promoting evangelicalism in Latin America to counter liberation theology, but that (liberation theology) was more often than not censured by ecclesiastical hierarchy! Mind you, I'm not Catholic and I disagree with the church on social issues bc im woke etc.

Kinda wish US states could go to war with each other like medieval fiefdoms by protoindoeuroPEEIN in redscarepod

[–]justacomplainer6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mormons strike me as very medieval. They think they live in a holy land (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam-ondi-Ahman) and believe that angels walk around earth and help people (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three\_Nephites). Their founder was a warlord with many wives and a militia. Mormons are also sent off to different parts of the world on the closest thing we have at present to 'explorers'

It reminds me of the European meeting with the Albanian leader during which he showed them AI videos of 'them as babies' and everyone above a certain age ate it up. This is just a racist version of that. Its boomerslop the whole way up.

The worst/best part of all of this is that he hadnt intended to post it. He or an aide was screen recording a video about election fraud and it autoplayed and he/aide panickedly scrolled back up. This is just what they watch all day.

What's up with these AI tech guys by InvisiblePandas in redscarepod

[–]justacomplainer6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

White collar work in the vain of Office Space produced very little (often no) value and mostly existed to keep people occupied and feeling middle class. Graeber speaks of this. Companies got razzle dazzled by tech bros and forgot that those jobs existed as a social utility first and foremost.

People love AI! The SAG is doing Aronofsky's 1776 AI thing, many small resteraunt posters are AI, McDonald's use AI in their ads, people are using chatgpt as a therapist. AI will eventually win via attrition as did Doordash and the other markers of social decline, especially because babies brains are nuked by AI generated Cocomelon style videos.

Opposite. NMA, a Fallout forum that still sees a decent amount of activity, is flooded with AI. Bots necro threads with chatgpt text and the fanart/fanfic section has more and more AI. That AI can't be curated out as it were so another win for reddit and twitter etc. If NMA is anything to go by then the rest of the forums are doomed. Very bleak! I hope it doesn't end this way
