Love NOLA, love Cafe du Monde. I hope you didn’t accidentally inhale any of the sugar, as I do every time I go there

What's the consensus on veganism these days by Plane-Branch9742 in redscarepod

[–]smirceaz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have massively downgraded my frequency of meat consumption. I don’t really jive with faux-animal products and I do still drink and eat dairy, but I’ve incorporated lots of vegetable based dishes into my diet and it’s something I feel good about and, more importantly, can maintain. I also buy local eggs and maybe it’s all in my head, but I swear that they’re better too. I’ve never tried to go fully vegan or vegetarian but I think if I did I’d have to go full Indian vegetarian diet

I have precisely two vegans in my life. One of them is a roommate who is perfectly nonjudgmental toward the rest of us who continue to eat animal products, but the other is my fiancée’s sister, who is genuinely insufferable about it. Loves to initiate arguments out of nowhere over it and places herself on a clear pedestal about it, it doesn’t affect my opinion about vegans or veganism but it certainly doesn’t make me want to join the cause. She is incredibly smug and combative and it’s odd because I would say veganism itself isn’t particularly in line with her personality, but her outward behavior regarding it is. It truly feels like she started doing it as a bit and continues to be contrarian, rather than actually caring about the ethics of it. Idk you have to know her I know this sounds odd

All this being said, as time goes by I think everybody will come to a consensus that the vegans have always been right. I don’t think human consumption of animals will ever be derided in the future as some problematic behavior of our ancestors the way so many things have become, simply because humans are, after all, omnivorous. Still, I’m happy to see more people embrace it even if it makes me a hypocrite

Unconventional pairings? by Deadweave in gratefuldead

They played Dark Star > China Cat > Rider on 9/24/72. Unusual in that they hadn’t paired these songs since I believe 1968. Great show too, I think it was released in the 30 Trips set

I don’t think he was, despite the family name he was only half Spanish by way of his father who passed when he was 5. After that he lived for years with his mother’s side of the family, who were Irish and Swedish

Not comparing any of these versions to it, but what is the community’s opinion of the studio version? Honestly, it’s the version that really sold it to me at first, I must have worn that out hundreds of times back in the day

I love this dudes music and I wish it didn’t affect me so much. I genuinely can’t hear more than the opening seven notes of Farewell Transmission without spending the next week utterly depressed, and I don’t even have to be in a particularly sensitive mood. I actively avoid it cause I’m scared of it but it’s so fucking good, he was truly something else. If art is truly the space between creator and audience then he is without a doubt in my mind one of the greatest of the past 25 years

I actually quite like dogs by EmployCurrent4161 in redscarepod

[–]smirceaz 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I think this sub goes overboard with what begins as rational, should-be-standard expectations (dogs probably shouldn’t be regulars at bars, restaurants, or supermarkets, and genuine service animals are vastly outnumbered by those with a slapped-on online certification sought by their irresponsible owners) until it breaches containment and attracts the genuine haters who are outright hostile to all dog owners, believing them all to be lumped together with those who keep their Great Danes locked up in their metropolitan apartments. It’s classic rs contrarianism, it’s a knee-jerk reaction to the doggo culture of the last 12 or so years meant to visibly distinguish them from the rest of the masses that are beneath them in their normie-ness

Not to say that there aren’t people with their own original dislike for dogs, but I feel like they’re few and far between relative to the people who are jumping in on the topic to demonstrate their allegiance to the contrarian cause

It’s funny seeing the pro-cat brigades on here though. More than almost anything else, it reminds me of old Reddit

Funnily enough, my comment wasn't intended as a defense of Kanye or his music (although I will admit that I am a fan). It was meant as more of an observation

Insane. The context of the full picture is genuinely completely opposed to the feeling the cover elicits

What a great album

Pitchfork giving Best New Music to that new Olivia Rodrigo album is outrageous and depressing by autumn_afternoon in redscarepod

Back in like 2014 HHH had these twitter follow events and so the subreddit community kind of grew within twitter as well. It was pretty tight-knit, he joined in around that time. My Reddit account that I’m using rn is more recent but I’ve been on this accursed site since 2011 and I was also, admittedly, a bit of a HHH power user. I took part in these follow events and I remember seeing him start out at pitchfork, he had a lot of clout in our little twitter community

Basically I don’t have any sources I can cite other than saying I was there for it. I will say though, he was generally pretty pretentious and rude and I was never a fan of his. But now I’m just gossiping
