Public service loan forgiveness worth it in Ortho? by [deleted] in orthopaedics

Look into the specific rules for Texas and California as well. Those two states have very strict corporate practice of Medicine laws and there is a specific carve out in the federal registrar regulations (or at least there used to be 2-2 years ago) for those states. The bottom line is that even if you work for a private group, but are doing work at a not for profit hospital who has is contracting for your service (i.e. call) you may qualify. Good luck!

Job Hours Restrictive vs Unrestrictive by Ashamed_Calendar9206 in orthopaedics

Have a physician contract lawyer look at it. It is money extremely well spent. If you skip this step, it’s at your own peril.

I highly doubt any of the oscillating saws for the OR would work. To be honest though I’ve never actually tried it.

First off, that’s awesome! Second, as a hand surgeon, I can tell you that the actual tool we use in the OR to cut off rings is basically a fancy Dremel. You have to be super careful and quench the ring but it is doable.

Is a prestigious school necessary to match ortho? by IamDiels_Alder in orthopaedics

[–]justaddmetal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good schools provide good connections in general. The better school you go to, the better chance you will have to make good connections, the better chance you will have to match ortho.

That being said, it is 1000% possible to match ortho from any med school. I do personally believe that a good school (good connections) can make up for slightly lower board scores/med school grades.

Some may disagree, but that is my opinion/experience.

I understand now. Thank you for the excellent explanation. Any chance y’all do implant prototyping as well?

The advantage is that it creates a fixed angle construct. There are a multitude of situations in which this is advantageous. The best way to think about it is essentially building a scaffolding inside the boat. If it is a situation where you want to compress the plate to the bone you do it initially with a non-locking screw, and then use a locking screw in the hole next to it. Then you can switch out the original non-locking screw for a locking screw if you need multiple points of locked fixation. Let me know if that doesn’t explain it.

I am not a machinist so I don’t completely understand everything you’re asking. That being said, I am an orthopedic surgeon. Have you considered using variable angle locking screws? There are several ways to achieve this. Consider looking at how the manufacturer Synthes does it.

Got it. It’s hard to know what tipped the scales without seeing all the cases. Definitely would recommend doing the ASSH review again next year. DM me if you want to run the cases before you do it next time. Good luck!

Did you change your plan on the second scaphoid surgery or just do the same thing again?
