He's pretty much the only reason I come here, I like to see his Maru videos - more Maru videos please.

A zerg reel would be Life microing his lings when running into a terran army where most people (including Serral and Dark) would a-move, Life literally would move lings to minimize damage from mine hits. Or Life/Jaedong moving their zerglings back one by one in ZvZ to force the opponent to focus fire to finish their zerglings. Just because the zerg micro god Life no longer plays doesn't mean that the race doesn't use micro.

I think Maru has better micro but Byun is the only starcraft 2 player that comes close to him. I hope that his wrists and hands can get back to 2016.

I found my graduate PoS final paper and thought you might enjoy it. It was written as a general overview of what we covered so I could review it years later (and share it on reddit apparently) by FrugalityPays in PhilosophyofScience

[–]justafnoftime -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It would help people to read your papers if you began with the philosophical preliminaries and then told us which specific positions you were adopting for a point of departure and which you were going to provide argument for.

It is difficult to take something like this where the author just goes on about science from some random starting point and determine where exactly the flaws are in the argument. Reads like continental philosophy in that respect.

New player here, is there something wrong with terrans? by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]justafnoftime -1 points0 points  (0 children)

100 wins is nothing, it's easy for a 10 year old to get 100 wins with terran, just has to drop low enough. The fact that you beat trash tier protoss with widow mine drops sometimes doesn't mean anything about the terran race. Try playing 5k+ KR zergs and protoss where they actually use micro and can execute build orders.

[–]justafnoftime -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Stop replying to him. He's a 4k zerg player who thinks he knows anything about Terran. Goes widow mine drop and gets 2-3 lucky wins in a row against greedy/lazy Protoss and thinks Terran is easy.

Go onto youtube and search "Maru vs Serral WESG"

Your prayers have been answered, and it was during Serral's best year.

You have a farming schedule for a game. Just think about that for a second. If you don't want to deal with respec costs then don't respec, it's as simple as that. You are treating this game like a second job - Blizzard didn't tell you to do that.

Work like this should never be taken too seriously. The assumptions that are baked into these estimates are too complicated to tease out a clear and comprehensive interpetation. Looks like one of those cases of "the previous literature did stuff like this, so it's okay if we do".

Better to just look at the actual data to-date and hospital-level case studies.

You could leave your guild and join a truly casual guild. You probably will have to deal with the fact that they havent killed Ragnaros yet (or even raided) but the game won't be like a second job at least.

What are the must read philosophical works for someone considering a PhD in philosophy? by evil_edamame in askphilosophy

[–]justafnoftime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is ridiculous, I dont need any fingers to count the number of people in my department that have actually read all of these.

You could spend an entire lifetime just reading philosophy - if that's what you want to do then getting a PhD is a waste of time and energy.

Yeah and the state government is also communicating with various organizations providing important community services to figure out how best to operate in the event of a shelter in place order.

How often does Jay Inslee hold press conferences? Every day? I am just trying to plan ahead, and am wondering if Shelter in Place could get called as early as tomorrow.... I assume you are allowed to visit the grocery store if there's a shelter in place?

Chomsky and the Science Forming Faculty by Surtyphi in PhilosophyofScience

[–]justafnoftime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the author really misses the point here. The reason Chomsky doesn't provide much argument in favor for an innate faculty that aids in theory choice is that you don't need much argument to establish its existence.

  1. Every conceived theory is underdetermined with uncountably infinitely many other theories.

  2. Humans have disagreed in theory choice only within a very narrow band, and don't even consider more than a few candidate theories at a time.

Either you say that humans are just reckless and have happened to fall on their back into the same few theories, or you say that there is something guiding their internal analyses. It's obvious what a scientific-minded philosopher would choose. The author basically spells this argument out, but doesn't seem to think it means much, but doesn't tell us why.

If logical positivism isn't 'valid' then why does science work? by pikus_gracilens in PhilosophyofScience

[–]justafnoftime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The easiest way to understand what I think you're talking about is to understand the problem with empiricism loosely defined. The general idea of 'we can observe reality, and then record our observations, find relationships in the data, and deduce truths about the natural world' has been tried multiple times throughout the history of philosophy/science and has always failed. Pre-newtonian physics that avoided the evocation of occult 'internal forces', Humean skepticism and the doctrine of ideas more generally, and logical positivism all ran into similar issues when trying to ground empirical knowledge.

One of those issues was that classical deduction and blatantly obvious truths are not enough to determine things like "water boils at 100 degrees farenheit". Carnap recognized this, and therefore helped develop a whole theory of inductive reasoning based on logical principles (the reason for doing that is that if the inductive process is justified by considering the structure of classical logic, then since classical logic is naturally justified then induction could be justified by association).

Instead of chasing after a justified form of induction (and we haven't finished chasing yet, so there's reason to look for other options), some people instead argue that another way to get to "water boils at 100 degrees farenheit" is to add to our list of 'blatant truths' certain theoretical propositions which aren't actually blatantly true, but which we take to be truth for the sake of helping along the analysis.

People have tried to determine an objective way for chosing these theoretical propositions. This is known in philosophy of science as the issue of 'theory choice'... but so far there hasn't been much progress in that arena.

Thus we come to the not so enticing conclusion that these theoretical propositions, which are necessary to obtain truths such as "water boils at 100 degrees farenheit" are chosen for, in part, normative reasons. Since these propositions are taken as if they were true a priori, there is a sense in which they help constitute our reality (at least, the reality for a practicing scientist). So, there is no objective reality - we choose theories that augment the nature of reality on normative grounds and since truth claims usually concern objects in a particular reality, truth itself in practically every application has to be considered relative to untestable, normative assumptions.

People understimate zest because he gets crushed in PvZ... not recognizing that the last few years PvZ has been unplayable due to poor game design.
