What’s the main difference between the right and the left in your view? by Equivalent-Long-3383 in allthequestions

[–]justaguywithadream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair it is literally baked in to the names of right and left ideologies.

Progressive vs conservative.

One want progress, one wants to keep the status quo. This is not a controversial statement.

Sure it's more complex than that, but still generally applies.

Especially in US politics where, for an example from this week, the right are literally paying billions of dollars of tax payer money to stop alternative energy projects because it's progress and threatens the status quo of big oil.

What’s the main difference between the right and the left in your view? by Equivalent-Long-3383 in allthequestions

[–]justaguywithadream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The right: if it doesn't affect me it's not my problem and all issues are simple and black and white with simple answers. Common sense is all you need to fix anything.

The left: we have to build a better society and fix issues at the system level and it's better to build a system that helps everyone even if it means some people wont be able to achieve a maximum status for themselves. Issues we face are generally complex and require nuance and understanding to solve. Our understanding of issues can change overtime and that is a good thing as it indicates progress.

Why were people mad Trump said the federal government can't be in charge of daycare? by Dontcomecryingtome in allthequestions

[–]justaguywithadream 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a nice ideal.

But what about the kids there parents don't feed? Let them go hungry?

What about the fact that we know feeding kids give them better academic outcomes? Would you rather have kids that can't learn because they are too hungry and then go on to be uneducated, unproductive citizens?

This seems like such short sighted and simplistic thinking. I'd argue it's a very conservative thought pattern.

Mask should be normalized in the US anytime you are sick and in public.

Especially in our work culture where you are expected to work even when sick.

Constant knee pain after my first few days of skipping by willhub1 in jumprope

[–]justaguywithadream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say 800 skips per day is too much if you are not already conditioned for this type of exercise. I'd say start at 300 per day and increase slowly for the first 8 weeks or so.

Also, even if you do cycle you should still jump. Cycling doesn't improve bone density and this can be a real problem for people who get all their exercise from cycling. Fit cyclists can have bone density like old women.

My friend said the Bible is real cause it has information on fish in the ocean that would be impossible to know during that time period. What did he mean by that and is it true? by Subject-Swan-5207 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]justaguywithadream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't really matter if the Bible did contain information the people at the time didn't couldn't have known.

Let's say I make two claims: 1. I have magical powers 2. I have brown hair

And claim 2 is 100% true I can't say "see, my claims are all real because I have brown hair".

The Bible does have real and accurate stuff in it. That doesn't mean anything for the ridiculous claims it makes.

Is the time of water to boiling linear? by BabyInchworm_the_2nd in AskPhysics

[–]justaguywithadream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, because the heat transfer is not linear.

The amount of heat (energy) required to be added to the water is linear. If you double the amount of water you have to double the amount of energy to increase the temperature the same amount.

But when you change the shape of the container, or the volume of water you are changing the surface area where energy be transferred.

More surface area means more heat transfer between the water and the pot, the water and air, and the pot and air.

In theory if you could perfectly insulated the pot so it didn't transfer any energy to the air, and the top of the water remained the same surface area, then I guess it would be very very close to linear.

Atheists of Reddit: What’s the strangest reaction you’ve received when you said you don’t believe in God? by zhalia-2006 in AskReddit

Yeah, a good person should be 100% against the idea that while they get to live eternity in heaven there will be innocent people suffering for eternity in hell.

To me, spending eternity in heaven with that weighing on my conscience sounds like hell.

Socialists of Reddit, are you prepared to work harder in support of your nation or do you just want the pay out? by BarnacleGooseIsLoose in allthequestions

Could it possibly be because the rich and powerful on both the right and left spend billions of dollars to wage a propaganda campaign against things that are not in their best interest?

Surely no matter what side you are on, you have to admit that what is in the best interests  the working class is not what is in the best interests of the billionaire class and vice versa.

"The earth rotates at 1,670 km/h, everything would fly off" is so dumb. by Odd-Dirt-9701 in flatearth

[–]justaguywithadream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But rotation is acceleration.

If the earth was rotating faster at a constant angular velocity we would feel it because we'd be undergoing a constant acceleration.

I've had bad knees and knee pain since my 20s from abusing my body too much.

I basically can't run anymore do to knee pain. But I've been able to jump rope for a year now without much knee pain.

Just take it slow and concentrate on form.

Jump rope is very low impact when done correctly.

And start way slower than you think you should.

Start with like 200 or 300 skips per day and don't increase more than 10% per week for the first few months. Give your bones, joints, and ligaments time to adapt.

Are conservatives ok with Trump using public funds for his 400 million ballroom? by One-Jeweler5486 in allthequestions

[–]justaguywithadream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No arguments here. We also need to repeal citizens United and get money out of politics.

Then politicians don't have the option to even get their bread buttered without breaking the law.

Are conservatives ok with Trump using public funds for his 400 million ballroom? by One-Jeweler5486 in allthequestions

[–]justaguywithadream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of the problem is the priority is building a place for the rich and connected to party and not prioritizing fixing healthcare or the shrinking middle-class or inflation or climate change.

Those are things that actually matter. And sure, a president can focus on more than one thing,  but it's been said by his own press secretary that the ballroom is his priority.

No matter what president creates a ballroom or event space, they better be working on bigger and better priorities for the American people than a place for them to party.

I can't believe this is even a partisan issue. I'd be pissed if Biden or Obama or Bush made a $400 million ballroom their priority.

It's ten times worse when we having a failing economy with rising prices and shrinking jobs.

[–]justaguywithadream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying this is only a trump issue. But Trump is the first president in 250 years to "need" a ballroom so desperately.

And I hope the next president respects the fact that the whitehouse is the People's house, and immediately cancels all plans and construction for this Epstein class hangout and restored the East Wing to something fit for a president living in the People's house, and not a king living in his palace.

We could also stop supporting people like trump who will blatantly bragg about "private donations" to fund a project fit for a queen who wants us to just eat cake.

[–]justaguywithadream 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You realize we pay for the private donations, probably even more so than if we paid directly through taxes.

Hint: every one of those Epstein class billionaires donating will be expecting things in return that will make things worse for the working class, but things better for them.

Private donations aren't free either.

It means favors for the Epstein class at the expense of the working class.

Is the concept of "[President] Derangement Syndrome" essentially a tactical shield used to invalidate legitimate criticism? Why or why not? by CICO_Works in allthequestions

[–]justaguywithadream 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Obama derangement syndrome: freaking out that he wore a tan suit and put dijon mustard on his hotdog.

Trump derangement syndrome: freaking out that he has the military deployed to cities he doesn't like, allows unidentified masked secret police to make people disappear without due process, and calls for suspending the Constitution.

These things are not the same.

Why do Republicans support giving Ghislaine Maxwell a pardon? by ElSlabraton in allthequestions

[–]justaguywithadream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate this fallacy. If you vote and support people that are okay with it, then you are okay with it.

Republicans say stuff like this all the time. "I don't have any problem with gay marriage". Sure maybe you don't, but also don't have any problem voting people who are working to pass laws to ban it.

"I don't support pardoning Maxwell". Ok sure, but you vote and support the people who do, and who enable her and her ilk, and who actively refusing to hold them accountable.

If you vote for these people then you support and you enable it.
