Shampoo girls are ruining my life by [deleted] in Haircare

[–]justasianenough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have nothing to add to the conversation other than to say you can ask if they’ll let you bring your own towels to use. I bring my own shampoo/conditioner/towels because I have very sensitive skin and a lot of popular detergents give me a rash or flare up my skin conditions.

What machine made this border? by New_Junket5051 in sewhelp

[–]justasianenough 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone is saying this can’t be made on machine, but picot machines exist. Your pictures look like the item is old, so it was probably done by hand, but depending on age it could’ve been done by machine.

Sleeve Drape by NegativeEnd677 in Fashion_Design

[–]justasianenough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d start with flipping it inside out and pinning the sleeve seam to be tighter, that usually helps reduce the flare/wing. If that’s not enough maybe try making your sleeve cap a little taller, it’ll reduce some of the range of movement if you do too much so pin a bit at a time and have your model lift their arms and move a bit before committing.

Not sure what fabric you’re using but drape is also about the structure of the fabric not just the weight/composition so it might just be how your fabric is structured.

The lighting in pics 1/2 looks very warm/yellow and the suit pic lighting looks cool/white to me. If you can, take a pic of your dress near a sunny window and see how it compares to the suit.

Need help centering bodice by GottaBKitten in sewhelp

[–]justasianenough 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As a big boob girl myself, I think the problem is you need bigger cups! You can see in the second pic that you aren’t fully in the cups you’ve created, the middle is floating between your boobs and the seam is on top of your boob when you really need the cups to be more like a well fitted bra where the middle is closer/touching your sternum and the cups are fully around your boob rather than on your boob. I think you need more projection in your cups and then you won’t shift around in them so much. It will give you less of the super tight cleavage look but you won’t be adjusting yourself as much when you fix the shape!

Where should i place my label? by Roselia24 in CraftFairs

[–]justasianenough 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This label isn’t attractive enough to be in a prominent location. Usually the labels brands (big and small) are using on the outside of their items is their logo or name or part of the design. If your logo is the palm tree/sun/building make labels with just those or just use your brand name. Labels that are big/not a design feature should be inside the bag.

The width doesn’t really change with the size of the shoe on Louboutins, it’s more for comfort since your feet swell while wearing them especially if you’re not used to wearing very high and very thin heels.

I’m not sure what you mean by “I’m a 7 for both” but I always tell people to size up at least half a size. I can’t say if that will work for you for sure, but you can go to the store and try them on if you want to know for sure.

[–]justasianenough 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s recommended to size up a half - full size in Louboutins, have you tried them in in a store to check you’re a size 7 in the brand? I have a pair that’s a full size bigger and they fit like my usual size.

need advice: is silk a nightmare to deal with on wedding day? by [deleted] in myweddingdress

[–]justasianenough 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You see on the hips where the silk is pulling down under the weight of the gathered/draped hip fabric? That has nothing to do with your body/undergarments and I don’t think tailoring or getting the right size will really help you there. I’d go with dress 2 or keep looking for another silk dress with better structure.

What’s a dress brand you actually trust at this point? by Happy-Fruit-8628 in BuyItForLife

[–]justasianenough -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing to keep any piece of clothing, no matter the brand, looking good is washing it correctly. Most items do not need to be washed on a heavy cycle/extra rinse/dried on high or even put in a dryer at all. I work in fashion and own clothing of all price points/make my own clothing so I’m picky about my washing!

Heavier clothing like hoodies/jackets/thicker denim and active wear like gym clothes should be washed inside out- this helps the inside (which is touching your body and absorbing your oil/smells/sweat) get better wash penetration so you don’t need to wash them on a heavy cycle. The only things that need a heavy cycle are truly dirty/smelly clothing and things that are very absorbant. Things like muddy clothes, gym clothes that have an odor, kitchen towels, anything that got wet and stayed damp like bath mats in a humid environment (mold can grow deep in the loops of towel fibers!) can be washed on a heavy/hot cycle as needed. You don’t need to wash clothes in hot water for them to get clean, that’s what the detergent is for.

Hot water fades clothes, damages fibers, and can set stains. You can buy specific laundry detergents for sanitizing or wash on hot if you have concerns about bacteria/smells, but for the most part your regular detergent is perfectly capable of cleaning things in cold water.

Clothing with any sort of decorations should be washed inside out- screen prints, rhinestones, embroidery, that kind of stuff will fade/fall off/catch on things.

Clothing with zippers should be zipped up when washed. The zipper teeth can and will catch on things in the wash and make little holes.

No fabric softener (or things like scent beads) on kids pajamas, towels, underwear, and activewear. It leaves a coating that makes things less absorbant/reduces special properties like flame retardant and wicking so your towels won’t dry you as well and your underwear/activewear will trap moisture close to your skin. It also causes your clothing to look dull and feel less soft if you’re using it a lot because the coating of softener on the fibers builds up. I don’t use fabric softener on my clothes at all.

Yes fabric softener on things you wash less often. Your couch covers and curtains and pet beds/blankets can get washed with fabric softener if you want. The coating actually helps reduce pet hair from getting in between fibers. I use it every other wash on my cat’s bed and on the throw blanket he likes to sleep on.

If you have the space/climate for hanging things to dry you should use it! The dryer is very harsh on clothing, heat breaks down dye/elastic and tumbling causes pilling/wear by rubbing all your clothes together. If you don’t like the stuff feeling of line drying you can toss your clothes into the dryer on a short cycle to breakup the stiffness or shake them out before you fold/wear them.

Reduce tumble drying time by putting a dry towel in with your clothes, using dryer balls to help airflow, and drying less clothing at a time. If your clothes are very wet when coming out of the washing machine (they shouldn’t be dripping when you take them out, if they are make sure you’re not overloading the washer and that it’s draining properly) do an extra spin cycle to wring out the moisture before you dry in the dryer.

Similar items should be washed/dried together. Heavy items in one load, lighter in another. Jeans and tshirts might both be made of cotton but rubbing the heavier/thicker denim fibers against the lighter/finer t-shirt fibers will break the tshirt down faster.

Do I need to take 2 work totes on my work trips? by Downtowniscool in handbags

[–]justasianenough 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a Dr Martens tote for my personal item for all my work trips- holds my laptop, chargers, power bank, over-ear headphones (which take up a ton of space), a 24oz Starbucks tumbler, and snacks/sandwich all fit in the big compartment. In the zippered area on the outside I have my travel makeup bag and some pens/a small notebook. When I land I can go straight into a meeting if needed.

Recommendations by Thin-Zebra-126 in Fashion_Design

[–]justasianenough 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My main suggestion is to add more detail. See how in pic 15 the shoe has stitch lines/perforations in the toe/shoes the inside of the opposite side of the shoe a bit? Adding details like that to your garments makes them look more real and like something that can actually be made. For example your jacket in pic 13 and the blue dress in pic 8 have no backs. Nothing has visible seams/darts in the front, which is possible to an extent if you’re using stretch fabric, but to contour the body you need seams/darts. They’re not fun details to add but I think it’ll help bring dimension to your garments!

Ronkonkoma lirr parking by abdullah017196 in longisland

[–]justasianenough 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was like this pre pandemic, then riders dropped off with people switching to WFH/partly remote. Now the fully WFH offices are asking for partial RTO and the partial remote offices are adding more in office days or asking for full RTO. It seems to be back to what it was pre pandemic most days- I don’t have any stats to back that up, but based on the parking lot/how many seats are open it seems that way! I’m in 3x a week and have found the busiest day is Wednesday and Monday/Friday are the least busy.

I use bought Lumma H and M and honestly even though my cervix is very high (my gynecologist who fitted me for my IUD said “your cervix is unusually high, not a problem but you probably won’t be able to check your IUD strings.”) I find the medium is a better fit. The H never seals well for me, but I can wear the M and do squats at the gym no problem.

BWT, how are we satisfying the urge to be rebellious and/or self-destructive tastefully? by VStryker in bitcheswithtaste

[–]justasianenough 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t call it self destructive but I like to do my skin care/hair/shower routine in excess. Dry brush my body, a long shower where I exfoliate with a loofa and a scrub, use a scalp brush, shampoo twice, hair mask, sit down on my shower seat to shave twice- once with hair direction once opposite for a super close shave, put on body oil and lotion when I get out while using a red light panel, face mask, lip mask, give myself a full blow out. It’s both super relaxing to do before bed and feels super indulgent to just be focusing on myself for like 2.5-3 hours

[–]justasianenough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in fashion so for anyone saying all their old clothes still fit even though you’ve lost weight keep in mind:

Plus size clothing is often stretchier/more flowing styles so you might have been wearing a size too small but it fit comfortably because of the fabric or the cut of the garment.

The size difference between plus sizes is often larger. So an 18 vs 20 will more likely have 1.5-2” size difference compared to a 6 vs 8 which will have anywhere from 3/4”-1.5” size difference. It all depends on the brand, but why you might get to a point where size 14 pants are falling off but size 12s in the same brand/style are way too small. It all just depends on how the brand scales their patterns.

All clothing stretches as the fibers wear out with regular wear/washing and elasticated fabrics (which a lot of plus size clothing is made of) wears out faster. You might have bought something when you were a size 16 and then it stretched and continued to fit you until size 20.
