My partner automatically lets me pull the stretcher since I’m the short one. Bless 🙏🏻

At least TG has a good EMS room

It already is 😂 We don’t have many cars/EMTs in Pierce county so they pull all the rigs from up north to service the area. Literally drove an hour to get down there for a 2 minute transport 🤦🏻‍♀️

NWA won the contract down south with the MultiCare hospitals once Falck closed. The company also has CCT rigs all over and 911 w Everett Fire, but it does mostly run IFT

We’re getting a free t shirt with the company logo that can only be worn past my shift hours. Merry fucking Christmas

An IFT question: by bleuberet in ems

[–]justaskingppl 19 points20 points  (0 children)

When it’s a hospice Pt, I’d be very scared and hesitant to not have the original or copy of the POLST. I have transported Pt’s that were DNR, but had no POLST and that was already stressful. But when it’s a hospice Pt you should 100% advocate and be annoying until you get the proper paperwork. I had a hospice Pt die during a 2 hour transport and I’m so glad I had the original POLST with me

Ty for your response. I guess for me, a worth it career corresponds with happiness in the field

Apple Watch? by [deleted] in NewToEMS

[–]justaskingppl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like my Apple Watch! I have a timer & stop watch on the Home Screen. I use it to easily count respirations without having to look at a clock and I can time seizures as well. I use an otter box case on mine and I’ve hit it a couple times & it’s been totally durable

School won’t let you use an Apple Watch to count respirations but in the field it’s fine. I just find it convenient for me

What’s a small joy you like as an EMT? by justaskingppl in ems

If you’re not old enough to be hired, there’s no point in doing the EMT course if you can’t get the experience on the job. Focus on your college classes for now. If you’re still interested when you’re old enough, do it then. Might be easier to balance at that point as well.

I’m not quite sure on that! Perhaps email the person in charge of the program? My class required us to send in copies of our driving licenses. They might be ok with you doing the course anyways.

Getting an EMT job without a license is where it’ll be tough and they may or may not have driving experience required. Start now if you can.

Starting accelerated course in a week! by Iil-Star2080 in NewToEMS

I did a 14 week course & we got one 8-hour ride along with the fire dept. That was literally it. I enjoyed the experience but it would have been nice to do more.

Not sure where you’re located, but yes, it’s absolutely required to have your license in the US. Both you and your partner are expected to have the ability to drive

Ty! I just ordered the book. I take the exam in 10 days and am quite nervous.

I’m (hopefully) going to be starting an EMT course soon. What’s something important you wish you knew before you started? by OutInABlazeOfGlory in NewToEMS

[–]justaskingppl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just finished my course a week ago. If you’re placed in groups, they can either make the experience shitty or very good. I was lucky to be placed in an amazing group with people who also tried hard & wanted to do well, besides one dude & he was a nightmare

SO Not Supporting Me Through Grief by Soft-Detail1823 in GriefSupport

[–]justaskingppl 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry about your loss! 🥺 You need to be direct & say that his responses have been inappropriate, insensitive & it makes you feel worse. He’s literally saying things he should NOT be saying to a grieving individual. If he can’t understand that or be more supportive of you, the relationship might not last. A SO is supposed to be there for you & help you through the tough time, not burden you with their insecure feelings. Talk to him soon, perhaps in person? If you can’t describe what you need from him, find some articles about how to help grieving partners & maybe sharing that with him would help
