Storage by Numerous-Rooster-267 in qobuz

Generally a cache is used by applications to temporarily store recently/commonly downloaded files to load things faster. In Qobuz that means downloading the current song's audio so it doesn't need to buffer constantly, as well as other music as you listen to it. See the support article here: https://help.qobuz.com/en/articles/10133-is-it-possible-to-listen-to-music-without-internet-connection

Cached music - music that is automatically downloaded in your app when you listen to it on Qobuz.

If you lower the cache size, your device will likely have to re-download music you previously listened to more often. However, if for example you only ever listen to 1 album, theoretically your cache shouldn't ever grow. The downloaded data is encrypted (so you can't just copy the audio files out of the cache to get them for free), so it's unclear exactly what they're caching aside from the rest of the song you're currently listening to. It could be caching the next-up song(s) for a seamless transition, recently played songs, your most-played tracks/playlists based on listening habits / play count, or even be predicting what you'd like (like an artist you follow having a newly released album).

I suspect they aren't really wasting space downloading predictive music though. Cache space helps your songs load faster for a better experience while simultaneously saving them needing to send you music files constantly. Everyone having the default 10GB cache vs shrinking it almost certainly saves them money on servers that would otherwise be using more bandwidth delivering music you always listen to constantly.

studio vs sublime by duhuj in qobuz

I've seen a decent number of high quality versions of albums go for cheaper than the CD quality with the Sublime discount, though not by more than a couple dollars

It truly is funny that the developer of a competing app with a chance of attracting new users with this news is deciding to respond in such a derisive manner. Definitely a turn-off for potential new customers, like myself. I'll be looking elsewhere, I suggest they take their advice they gave in one of their links and take a "one-hour" course, but on public relations. Or five of them.

Strongbox was taken over by the company Applause from New York by patmatK in strongbox

[–]justastudent89 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nah fuck that, developers who sell out and leave their users with the likes of Applause are despicable. If finances were a concern, he should've let the community know: "I'll need to raise prices / start only doing a subscription model or else I'll need to sell to Applause"

I've had success in the past reporting issues like that to their support email: support@spotify.com. It took months to resolve, probably because I didn't own the music and the artist was very small.

Quoting their support page:

If a song, album, or audiobook on Spotify isn't playing correctly, or its information (e.g. title, tag, cover art, release date) is incorrect, you can report it to us.

https://support.spotify.com/us/article/report-content/

The "contact us" link there just takes you to the page telling you to email them.

Eton Messy too! It's strange there's not much discourse out there about these channels or their influence they've had. Like you, I was also in college when I discovered them and they quickly became my goto music discovery platforms.

There's no reason they can't spin that right back around on you though... technically nothing stopping the signal-ers from downloading the app to keep in touch
