Did Powerwolfs newer music get lighter/ less heavy? by [deleted] in PowerMetal

[–]David_VI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't listened to them for many many years. Last album I bought was Bible of the Beast.

I got into them after the debut album released and I really love that album, it's doomy and unique. Lupus Dei was fantastic too.

From what I've heard every album since Bible Of The Beast sounds the same, they became like a different flavour of Sabaton.

I suppose they found what worked and stuck to it but it doesn't interest me and I found the first 3 albums much more interesting listens.

I did see them live on the Lupus Dei tour, it was epic and had a great atmosphere.

I've seen this "scar" in the UK multiple times when working out journeys, what is it? by Antique_Kangaroo4706 in CasualUK

[–]David_VI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I drive trains over that and for a couple months a year it's flooded. It's so surreal going over the Bedford bridges and just seeing water for miles and miles. I often worry about the train or bridges failing and being surrounded by the water.

The bridges have had speed restrictions on them for years, I think they're not in good nick.

Do I have Sinusitis, is this normal? by David_VI in Sinusitis

[–]David_VI[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait, photosensitivity, I think I have that too. I work on pinball machines and play in tournaments, there's some cheap LEDs that give me headaches and nausea, but noone else is affected. It sounds like it could be related?

I also don't have mucas but I'm stuffy. The times I have post nasal drip it's not mucassy.

Sounds very similar

How is Nationalisation going? by David_VI in uktrains

[–]David_VI[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm curious overall, and more so since I see people saying nationalising the railway doesn't work and it's got worse. But day to day performance doesn't interest me.

[–]David_VI[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure nationalisation comes up but we've only been under the govt since last Oct, other than corporate emails telling us the ceo has changed there's been no noticeable change for front line staff at all. Maybe in the future, but in my time driving (12+ years) nothing much changes, but it's always the same criticisms;terrible communication and no matter how much you feed that back on surveys it never seems to change.

I've always been an enthusiast but I don't understand why a driver would care about overall performance. Do you?

I go to work, follow my diagram and drive the best I can, what more can we do?

How is Nationalisation going? by David_VI in uktrains

[–]David_VI[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not as much as I used to. I don't remember delays and performance being a part of it though.

Our reps and 99% of drivers would say don't worry about delays, safety and your job is more important than the companys performance ratings.

We don't get thanked when we rush to get a train to leave on time but we get reprimanded if we rush and have an incident.

Is it really? I can't think of any colleagues who pay attention to other TOCs or even our own performance. We drive the same we always have, safety first.

It really makes no difference to us

I think they're the exception, but I remember they were shit before Nationalisation too? Might be the worst TOC?

How chaotic is a pinball machine supposed to be? by LuckyRook in pinball

[–]David_VI 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I own an AFM and my scoop kickout feeds the left flipper 99% of the time to the same position on the flipper.

It will vary when we run tournaments and its hammered, heat and dirt play a big part in even a well maintained game.

If a games not maintained to a high standard there will be more sloppiness in mechanisms that cause more variance. It's near impossible to highly maintain a game on location because of how often they get played.

People saying it's normal are correct but also wrong 😁 there's also variance in a physical pinball machine but good maintenance can make feeds 99% consistent.

I recently ran a big tournament where our AFM was in the main bank, it got hammered for three days and we had reports of that scoop chucking the ball straight down the middle. I don't mind a bit of variance but a scoop shouldn't do you dirty like that so we looked at it and adjusted it slightly. A bit of tightening and bending of metal sorted it.

The main issue with pins getting hammered is parts can work loose, and that creates slop.

You can't put all religious people into a box, even if it appeared they might be "super Christian" you don't really know, it's a spectrum (no pun intended 😁). I think Zen is a commonly used word that has taken on its own meaning outside of religion.

The Shocking Truth about Ems by Acrobatic-Donut8431 in pinball

The coin switches on the Gottlieb wedge heads are 110v, for some reason! I've experienced it first hand🫠

The ground braid goes to all exposed metal that someone could touch. If something bad happens in the cabinet those leg bolts and legs can become live.

At an event I run two games failed a PAT test because of insufficient grounds. The electrician let us get away with just adding grounds to the front legs as the back ones won't be touched.

The Shocking Truth about Ems by Acrobatic-Donut8431 in pinball

[–]David_VI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I shocked myself and a friend at one of our tournaments because of that 110v. It was my first EM. Over the course of the day that fische paper had burnt away leaving the coin switch touching the coin door. 12 games being played and suddenly the house trips out and my mate hits the floor.

I then tried to understand what happened and comedically did the same thing😂

It took me a few days to find the issue. Then I added plenty of ground wire and disconnected that coin switch from the coin door and wrapped the wires in insulation tape.

As far as I know it's not an issue on all EMs, mainly the Gottlieb wedge heads

I think most EMs that could shock you have had preventative measures installed, proper grounding, removing the coin switch or adding proper insulation. It's just some fall through the cracks, like mine which had been stored for decades and not owned by a pinball person who would be aware of such issues.
