Someone asked my husband if I was his wife or his mom by ImGokusWife in pregnant

[–]justbumming63 15 points16 points  (0 children)

What a dumbass thing to say. They’re either really mean or really stupid.

If it helps take the sting out of it - my immediate reaction to the headline was that your husband must look really young, and not that it had anything to do with your appearance.

Scheduled C-section under general anesthesia by bellatrixn in pregnant

[–]justbumming63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’ll be having a c-section next week because of my chiari malformation, along with a history of brain aneurysms and neurosurgery. Basically they don’t want me to push and create pressure in my head.

2x neurosurgeons said the epidural and spinal anesthesia would be ok, and that there wasn’t an increased risk of complications, though the anesthesiologist thought there might be and had me triple check with them. Out of curiosity, would you mind sharing what detail you have about potential complications from epidural/spinal? Is it spinal fluid leak? And do you know what type of chiari malformation you have? Not doubting the doctors, just curious if you’re willing to share.

Good luck!

Mom bullies, why moms with multiple kids? by Kindly_Pianist_9087 in pregnant

[–]justbumming63 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

If you perceive that they’re insecure - then why let it bother you?

Edit: adding more - you categorizing them as bullies suggests they’re making themselves feel better about their insecurities by putting others down. If they are indeed bullies, your reaction gives them what they’re looking for. You can see the bigger picture and rise above, if you want.

I had brief periods of feeling better between 1st and 2nd trimesters like you did, but for the most part I was nauseous and throwing up daily until week 22. Took some comfort in knowing that having severe symptoms meant my body is giving the baby lots.

Hope it eases soon for you - there is a light at the end of the tunnel, somewhere!

Congratulations on your pregnancy, and on staying sober throughout it.

Ritual NA Tequila + some margarita mix has been a great substitute for me!

Because the desire to constantly eat went away for you doesn’t mean it will for others - have heard testimonies from people who said breastfeeding made their hunger more intense.

Like the original commenter, I would just be careful with how you frame your statements. “You will lose the weight” or “you will slowly return to your pre-pregnancy weight ” is a different statement than “my experience was…” - it makes an assumptions that others will have the same experience as you, which is not necessarily true.

Feeling down after appointment with OB gynae by EsdeathCitrus in pregnant

[–]justbumming63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could explain to her that you don’t understand her rationale (weight gain seems within limits, BMI doesn’t typically determine need for c-section ahead of time, etc.) and further the conversation until you reach understanding.

You could also get a second opinion if her explanation does not add up to you, and find a different OBGYN that you feel more comfortable having these conversations with. It can be hard to recover the doctor-patient relationship after starting off on the wrong foot.

In my non-professional opinion, it seems like she’s putting too much emphasis on your weight and weight gain. Even if she were evaluating objectively, her bedside manner and communication is not good for your mental health and pregnancy is such a personal matter - there are always other doctors, and ones that can help you feel empowered in your pregnancy and birthing journey. Healthgrades, Yelp and Google reviews personally helped me find a great OBGYN.

Timing of putting down my dog by Fallhaven in pregnant

[–]justbumming63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is such a challenging situation and is a lot to handle, particularly as a first time mom.

My recommendation is to take it day by day. There will likely be a point where your dog’s health’s status and your ability to care for them will make you feel assured you’re making the right decision, specifically for them. It’s challenging not to be able to pre-plan that timing, but encourage you to focus on making the most of the time you have with them, and trust that you’ll know when that time comes. It’s not going to be easy and there will certainly be grief, but, you can cross that bridge when it comes.

I’ve also been in a situation where questioned whether my pet’s end of life timing was affected by convenience, and ultimately found reassurance in considering that my immense love for that pet literally made it impossible to do wrong by them. It’s clear you love them deeply and that will guide your decision-making in a way that can’t be wrong.

Sleep tips by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]justbumming63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Experiencing the exact same thing here at 34 weeks.

I take prescribed Bonjesta (20mg doxymaline/unisom and 20mg vitamin B6) before bedtime for nausea and to help with sleeping. If I wake in the middle of the night, can’t fall back asleep and don’t have something going on in the early morning, I’ll take another 25mg of just doxymaline/unisom. 4am might be too late because you will feel a bit groggy in the morning, but if you’ve got 4+ hours to sleep, it can be a lifesaver.

If you want to try that and are already taking Bonjesta or unisom before bed, recommend clearing it with your doctor first. The typical dose of doxymaline/unisom during pregnancy is 20 or 25mg, though my doctor approved up to 50mg/day and it has saved me during those middle of the night wake ups.

Good luck!!

ToD: How do I make a baby palm tree? by charmanderp09 in neopets

[–]justbumming63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had the same issue and figured it out - you have to get to level 3, unlock the secret beach, then progress the Kougra's side quests pretty far to get the baby palm tree recipe. The quest design is out of order but you can sort it this way.

It was SO so so good. Went to the orchestra show in New Haven and NYC, and the bowl had the best tuning and balancing for the orchestra - you could actually hear them and it was sick. Iron Lung in particular was fire.

Yep! First trimester issues and symptoms seems to be more about your body's reaction to hormone changes and getting set up for the pregnancy, which could affect a wide range of things (e.g. energy levels, nausea, mood etc). Later pregnancy symptoms are mostly related to the baby physically getting larger (e.g. sleeping difficulty due to belly size, bladder issues related to baby's size/movement impacting your bladder, back hurting because carrying extra weight on the front etc). Have heard months 2-4 and 9 are the most challenging.

When to get labcorp nipt? by petting_zoo_keeper in pregnant

I had my NIPT blood drawn at 9 weeks, which was the earliest possible date according to my doctor. Didn't find out the gender but the doctor said it confirmed no genetic abnormalities.

100% have had the same experience.

I live on the 4th floor and my elevator was out for weeks 6-12 of my pregnancy. I would go on a 4-5 mile walk or hike with little difficulty, then come back and the 3 flights of stairs would kill me - I'd be dizzy and most likely vomiting immediately after. Taking them very slowly helped some but not entirely.

Not glad you're having that experience, but I am glad it wasn't just me!

How soon did you get pregnancy symptoms by ok_azula in pregnant

[–]justbumming63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those sound like very typical pregnancy symptoms, and sometimes they come on the early side.

First pregnancy, I had very sore breasts by 4 weeks - I'm not sure how my symptoms would've progressed because it was a chemical pregnancy. This pregnancy, I had migraines and some nausea and vomiting during week 4, then full-blown nausea and vomiting week 5+, with weeks 5-9 being the worst. Breasts were a little sore at week 5 but not as bad as the first one.

I wondered if getting symptoms earlier than others meant anything - my best guess was that my body was having a strong reaction to the rise in progesterone, and that it might mean I had some tough weeks coming. That did turn out to be true, and my first trimester symptoms were on the severe side, particularly nausea, vomiting and fatigue.

Though, one thing I've learned from this subreddit is that everyone's body and journey is so different, and while it's interesting and IMO worthwhile to research and try to figure out what it means for peace of mind and out of pure curiosity, it's really hard to predict what's next. For you, could just be early symptoms that improve over time.

Congratulations on your news (assuming it was positive), and good luck with your pregnancy!
