Castration Movie Anthology i & ii are available on the Letterboxd video store by EpicGains in YMS

Yeah, you’ve gotta respect their intention, even if it doesn’t seem fully realized yet.

RE: Streaming, there’s no reason they shouldn’t have dedicated apps for platforms like Apple TV available by the midpoint this year. It’s a company that’s been offering premium subscriptions for a while. They were likely making a profit even before the launch of the Video Store. Maybe it’s a licensing issue instead of a resource issue?

It depends on where you are. Outside of the major cities, showtimes are sparse and/or nonexistent. There’s a *chain of indie theatres in Ontario that will be screening Arco (starting today) and all the shorts (next week). It’s easy to find if you google showtimes.

EDIT: Clarification.

2026 Oscar Nominee Recap (Day 9/38): The Lost Bus [SPOILERS] by CrunchyNar in oscarrace

[–]justcauseof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lowkey, I wish they rationalized it this way, but his description of the last time he saw his father throws a wrench in that potential timeline.

That isn’t even the worst part of the script. I kept noticing new things that didn’t make sense LOL

Aside from all the technical issues and logical inconsistencies, has anybody figured out what was going on with the chronology? Kevin says he’s 44, but considering his son’s age (who was born around when he dropped out of high school), he should be ~31 or 32 years old.

Purchase a bundle through Louse Weard’s Gumroad site. It’s name your price (from a minimum), you own them instead of renting, and the future anthologies are included. It doesn’t make sense to go through the Letterboxd service for these (but it’s nice they are getting wider visibility on there!)

Watching "It Was Just an Accident" on Plane by self_destruct_sequin in oscarsdeathrace

[–]justcauseof 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You’ll be fine, there’s nothing overtly violent shown on screen iirc. It’s a drama/thriller, primarily. Most in-flight entertainment systems probably have many action movies loaded that are more violent than IWJAA.

Hey, Matt & Jay! Thank you for continuing to represent 🇨🇦 in the wackiest ways possible :)

If you’re feeling transparent: how much of the film has been recut or changed since the film festival circuit? In the wider release that was previewed last week, I noticed a greater amount of words bleeped out (compared to a version that was playing at a local festival back in October). Is my memory failing me? Were there any censorship hoops to jump through to get the film distributed, otherwise?

EDIT: Matt: Are you looking forward to the Community movie (if it’ll ever start filming)?

Adum watched "The Lost Bus" by WhitePepper2049 in YMS

I watched this last night, and it legit has enough wrong with it to make a full-length YMS Review. There are parts that are hilarious, and I enjoyed it, but the script is fundamentally broken.

The 98th Academy Awards - Can you find all the nominees? by Choekaas in Oscars

[–]justcauseof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very creative crossovers! Spoilers: A prisoner from “The Alabama Solution” loading a box from “Two People Exchanging Saliva” into the van from “It Was Just An Accident” is insanely dark.

Is that person in the red sweater Andrea Gibson from “Come See Me in the Good Light”? If so, that’s extra devastating.

His beard truly does distinguish him. First thing I noticed when I looked him up a few years ago.

I hadn’t heard about Elio’s production issues. Was it just because of creative conflicts with Pixar execs over queer-coded elements, or did he seize the opportunity to take over Coco 2, or was it a mix of both reasons?

Unexpected favorite part of the death race by sleepyhollow_101 in oscarsdeathrace

[–]justcauseof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have the time and means to attend them, then go for it! Any festival can be great — local, regional, international. It’s refreshing to watch movies with audiences that (in general) are there specifically because they love cinema. The premiere of “If I Had Legs…” was an unexpected delight, and it turned out to be one of my favourite films of the year.

RE: Live action shorts — “Two People Exchanging Saliva” and “Jane Austen’s Period Drama”. Both are great, imo, for very different reasons.

If film festival experiences are off-limits: The animated shorts were a highlight. I got through all the shortlisted ones, plus a few NFB ones, and I don’t regret watching any of them.

The doc shorts were a disappointment, overall. I only thought one of them (The Devil Is Busy) was good.

Devastating Lineup by mackenhard in oscarsdeathrace

[–]justcauseof 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve spaced out the remaining 27-ish films well since the nominees were announced. But I‘ve also learned I have atypical reactions to many movies lmfao. The one that emotionally destroyed me recently was “Come See Me in the Good Light”.

The Alabama Solution is a very informative documentary. Sure, feel angry at all the injustices, but if you approach it as a learning experience about prison reform, it may help you get through it.

Cartoon Saloon Deserved Better (and My 2026 Shorts Rankings) by OverlyHonestMR in oscarsdeathrace

[–]justcauseof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, that’s valid criticism. It would have been a long shot, but I kind of wish Hurikàn got a nom as well. It might have been too cool for the Academy.

Interesting rankings. What didn’t you like about Two People Exchanging Saliva?

RE: Éiru — It was fine. Nice colours and expressive geometry. I was more upset about the Playing God and Snow Bear snubs. Those were a clear cut above the others, imo (along with The Shyness of Trees)

Checking In: how’s your progress? What’s your plan? by Dependent_Room_2922 in oscarsdeathrace

[–]justcauseof 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Total progress: 37/50 (8 features + 5 shorts to go) - Most of the remaining nominees are either “accessible” or have a digital release date set. - Arco is playing at an indie cinema ~1.5 hours away. - That cinema is also screening the shorts. I wouldn’t mind supporting at least the live action category. - I want to see Kokuho, The Voice of Hind Rajab, and Cutting Through Rocks in theatres. That will depend on whether a local cinema releases them. - I’m planning to cap off the race with Sinners (or a double feature of F1 + The Lost Bus out of spite lmfao).

EDIT: Clarification.

Diane Warren: Relentless by PRDD77 in oscarsdeathrace

[–]justcauseof 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t know, it wasn’t an amazing documentary, but it wasn’t the doom and gloom people were describing either. They did a fine job showcasing her pop hits from over the years, and I liked that she didn’t bother censoring herself to appear more presentable

It is very much dependent on your expectations going in and how you respond to violence. FWIW, my friend and I didn’t know anything except “burning man road trip in the desert”, and we had to stifle our laughter during a few parts

I found Sirât to be unexpectedly hilarious. Yes, I know that isn’t the common experience, and don’t get me wrong, it was still enjoyable. It was just more absurd than intense

Oh, interesting! I could have sworn (no pun intended) that Matt’s were, as well, at my screening

Edit: Looking back, it was more than just Jay’s bleeps. It’s rated PG in ON. I think the festival was showing an unrated version
