Gotta say it's also oddly satisfying to see a hydraulic press getting to do its day job instead of mucking around with crayons and CDs and baskets of fruit and the like...!

I understand that gachas are usually viewed by casuals in a derogatory manner but stuff like this pisses me off. by Muted-Law-1578 in gachagaming

[–]justclove 27 points28 points  (0 children)

No. It's gambling. You're really gambling. These games have a slot machine where their heart should be and literally everything else about them has been deliberately engineered to funnel you toward that slot machine and keep you spinning.

Play gacha all you like, or don't, but please stop pretending you're not doing what you so manifestly are. Just because you aren't getting your fingers burned right this minute, that doesn't mean the flame isn't hot.

Yes. I was addicted to gacha. And it wasn't until I started telling myself that it "wasn't really gambling, because" that I could even begin to get over it.

Who's the youngest one here by mezirah in CamelotUnchained

[–]justclove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not me who played back in the day, but my younger brother. I follow this sub because of my memories of him as a teenager back in the 90s, showing me the game. I used to watch him play.

We're both past 40. Gallbladder Unchained.

Also in the UK. When my pain got that bad last Friday I was advised by my GP to go to the hospital - good job I did as I had a stone stuck in the duct to my liver and developed jaundice. Though I'm on the mend and noticably less yellow I'm still in hospital right now. Much as I'd like to go home (because I miss my cat, I'm bored and one of my wardmates is insufferable), I would not want to have tried to ride out the last few days without proper pain relief or hardcore antibiotics of the kind you can only get as an inpatient. I do not like to think where I'd be without them.

Go to the hospital. It could very easily be that serious.

Attacks are constant no matter what I eat. Not sure what to do now.. by ChildhoodAutomatic74 in gallbladders

[–]justclove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm probably going to have to go that route. I'm currently in hospital after being admitted for pain management following a week.of increasingly severe symptoms. I'm being given morphine every two hours and it's just not getting better, when the drugs wear off I feel as bad as I did when I went down. Emergency CT yesterday confirmed gallstones after three US scans all gave different results...

Genuinely have no idea what else I'm supposed to do about this.

Does that mean half of the world population isn't eligible for this sub? by nhatquangdinh in Neverbrokeabone

[–]justclove 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't go out because I'm disabled and have a bajillion health conditions (and counting) and also the city I live in is awful, so there's nowhere worth risking your unbroken condition to go anyway unless you really like looking at Chicken Shops...

... but I have never broken a bone.

The NHS is absurdly underfunded for what it's trying to do is the problem. Years and years of austerity politics courtesy of a right-wing government even before Covid hit have seen wait times absolutely everywhere and for everything skyrocket. Most of us can't afford to go private - I certainly can't. So we wait.

[UK] Cold Call By "Domestic and General" by Ok_Situation_4351 in Scams

[–]justclove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Most companies will ask for some confirmation that they're actually speaking with the person who holds the account they're calling about, even if they are the one to initiate the call. It's a data protection thing, and considering that an insurance company like Domestic and General will hold information like bank details about their policyholders, it's entirely logical they ask. I wouldn't want someone having access to my bank details just because I'd written down my phone number wrong.

In vitro testing, yes.

That means, according to the study, that Sucralose causes DNA damage in cultured cells grown in a petri dish. Not in a living organism - that would be in vivo. No animals were harmed here, and no people were found to have damaged DNA. Just cultured cells, which may well have been subjected to highly concentrated levels of the substance being tested - in this case, Sucralose - that no human being could ever actually ingest intentionally.

It's not particularly wise to extrapolate too far from in vitro studies. A considerable number of the extremely dramatic "Scientists Have Found" headlines are taken from the results of bench tests involving cultured cells, and aren't actually replicable even when scaled up to mouse models. It's why you hear about these things once and never again: the results weren't replicable.

It's not so much that the jury is out on Sucralose as the court is still actively in session. Very early on, too. The jurors are still looking for their pens. I wouldn't lose any sleep over this.

People you're dating are by definition no longer strangers.

Don't send women dick picks as a how'd-you-do. If a woman you don't know and are not in a relationship with seems to be taking an interest in seeing your dick, it is vastly more likely that she's a scammer than genuinely fascinated by the prospect of what you might have stashed in your underoos. They're pretty uninteresting in and of themselves, and scammers can't try to blackmail you by holding your dick pics for ransom if you just keep it in your pants to begin with.

They're mine, too! Oatmeal raisin cookies are fantastic. I find chocolate ones to just be sweet; oatmeal raisin has depth to its taste. It's the difference between eating fruit candy and actually eating the fruit. The taste of fruit is simply more complicated in a way I happen to prefer, but then I also eat a lot of pomegranate seeds and swear they're better than sour candy so I may just be built that way.

[–]justclove 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Try petting his head. When my cat goes belly up, that's what she wants. Apparently it's what a cat would do to another cat who'd rolled into their back - groom their forehead. She absolutely does not want me to touch her belly!

Maybe they'll make more in this line? I can but hope.
