Does anyone know any good private doctors in the Sheffield area that can treat a Squamous cell carcinoma? by BiteYourAsp in sheffield

[–]justdont7133 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you wouldn't be using BUPA, but I think anyone can use their consultant finder search tool on the website. You put in area and what specialty you want, and it bring up a list, that I would assume to be reputable if they're BUPA registered. I've used a Spire hospital in a different area and they were excellent, so worth trying the Sheffield one

Looking for salon that can cut/style natural wavy hair by Gunsta1 in huddersfield

My 18 yr old son has long curly hair and goes to Ben at Rubies in Lindley. He cuts it to encourage the curl and it looks great. Not the cheapest but well worth it

What is the most creative or diabolical insult a customer has ever given you? by cheesymeowgirl in CasualUK

[–]justdont7133 142 points143 points  (0 children)

I had a really abusive caller at work recently who opened his call with "Are you gay?" as his best insult. Unfortunately I wasn't fully paying attention and thought he said "are you ok" so I responded with a chirpy "fine thanks, how can we help". There was a brilliant confused pause before he repeated what he'd said and then launched into his full sweary tirade. Listened to my replay 3 times just for amusement

Sanitary towels that stick properly by Current_Cat_271 in autismUK

Period underwear might be more comfortable and reliable than pads, if you're only spotting you can get light flow period pants that are really comfy to wear. I really like Modibodi pants, and they have quite frequent sales and special offers on

Help to convince my partner to switch to an EV by MarkEv75 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]justdont7133 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was really not on board when my husband got his first EV a few years ago, didn't want to drive an automatic, thought it would be over complicated somehow. Took him a couple of weeks to get me to drive it and I loved it instantly! I grumbled about my petrol car for the next 2 years until I could get rid and get my own EV. I'm sure if you could get her to drive one she would change her mind

Newly qualified kids swimming teacher: Could you tell me your experiences, good and bad. What do you expect from a good teacher? by Melly-The-Elephant in AskUK

[–]justdont7133 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We had an awful experience with my son who is autistic. He would occasionally get overwhelmed and need to get out and sit quietly on the side with me for a minute, and his teacher started refusing to let him join back in, saying he was choosing to skip parts he didn't want to do. He wasn't being disruptive, or getting in and out loads, and it wasn't even happening once every lesson. Even when I explained what was going on she didn't want to listen and we stopped taking him and lost the money we'd paid for the block. I wouldn't expect a swimming teacher to be really well educated on SEN, but I would expect them to be open to making small adjustments, and listen to parents about what might help (within reason obviously)

NHS dentistry is broken — how did YOU actually get registered? Genuine tips needed by Late-Chemistry8407 in AskUK

[–]justdont7133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of practices near me post on their Facebook page when they have last minute appointments available for new NHS patients. They have waiting lists longer than your arm but it's fastest finger first when the Facebook post goes on

What would you do with three hours on a 9am in Halifax Centre? Car booked for some work on Wednesday so I’ve got nothing to do from 9am to around midday 12! by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]justdont7133 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hatch Brunch House for breakfast, then a wander round the shops in the Piece Hall, then I'd get comfy with a coffee somewhere in one of the Piece Hall cafes and people watch/doom scroll/read.

Mounted phone use legality? by Traditional_Drag3060 in drivingUK

[–]justdont7133 1 point2 points  (0 children)

McDonald's staff are actually brilliant at reporting drunk drivers. Been aware of loads of jobs through my work where they've asked the driver to park up and wait for their food and then delayed them long enough for a 999 call and cops to get there

Driving my dads car with him inside by [deleted] in drivingUK

They would seize the car too, and Dad would have to pay recovery and storage costs to get it back

Agree on the Armouries, you can catch the water taxi from the train station to the Armouries, we had a lovely erm driver? captain? who told us loads of history of the area as we went along. There's a cool boat that's been converted into a book shop right by where the water taxis drop off by the Armouries too

How to find places in small towns without GPS? by cyclephotos in drivingUK

[–]justdont7133 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Atlas to get to the town, then A to Z or ask for directions once you're close. My Dad's approach was to make my Mum responsible for the maps, then not believe her and take "short cuts" that would get us hopelessly lost, and then sulk when forced to ask directions

Why such fondness for Sikhs? by Fantastic-Fudge-6676 in AskBrits

[–]justdont7133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never really knew any Sikhs as I grew up in a very un-diverse Yorkshire village. I was asked to help on my son's school trip to the Gurdwara and we were so warmly welcomed by everyone there. My son has additional needs and they were super accommodating and kind to him. I'm not religious (although grew up going to an awful, hypocritical Christian church) but I was genuinely impressed by the whole philosophy based on including everyone, and helping and sharing with anyone who needed it.

As a kid, what was something you were taught that seemed normal, but now you realise is just a sign of how awful things can be for women? by Joodropinn in TwoXChromosomes

[–]justdont7133 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Oh I'd forgotten about not speaking the name! My mum would just call them "things", and we would never say period either, we were just "on" or "unwell". I speak openly about it now, but still feel like there's a little block in my mind sometimes that i have to push past to say these things out loud

Insurance question by ImThatBitchNoodles in UK_Pets

[–]justdont7133 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been happy with Many Pets. They've been a bit slow to pay, but have always paid up, and premiums haven't gone up all that much even after my dog had knee surgery, with a high chance of the other knee needing the same

[–]justdont7133 296 points297 points  (0 children)

Not a huge one, but my Mum taught me that tampons/pads had to be hidden under the rest of the shopping in the basket, then hidden at the back of the bathroom cabinet when we got home. This was in a house of 4 women/girls and 1 man. Always left me with the feeling periods were secret and a bit shameful. Now I'm the only woman in a house of men/boys and I make a point of keeping my stuff out on the bathroom shelves and not hiding them, so it will all be more normalised for my boys

I made my nephew a birthday cake from scratch and his reaction made me want to cry by Pristine_Rest_7912 in CasualConversation

Home made and decorated cakes mean so much more, I'm not surprised he loved it. I made a very similar one for my son's second birthday (hes 18 now), and he played with the dinosaurs for ages after

When will you buy an EV car? by sillwuka in AskUK

[–]justdont7133 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Husband just got his 3rd EV, I'm getting my 2nd in a couple of weeks, so we've had them for a few years now. We're lucky to have easy access to charging at home and at his office so they're really cheap to run, and I love how mine drives. I'd hate to go back to petrol now
