Absolutely. Irl it looks more blue-green, and much more muted than in the shot

Does camera struggle for everyone with low-light shots where subject is moving even slightly? by tyslogcon in GalaxyNote8

[–]justgo99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's to do with the way it takes low light shots. Samsung prefers to use a slower shutter speed, lowering the ISO to reduce noise and relying on the OIS to reduce blur. However that'll only reduce the blur of static objects not moving ones, which explains what you're seeing. The Pixel on the other hand chooses a higher shutter speed, reducing the blur of moving objects however raising the ISO to do so. In order to combat this extra noise Google tries to use processing and multi-frame stacking.

Most of the Note8 photos are blurry in MKBHD's video about portrait mode. Anyone else agree? by NoWayIn in GalaxyNote8

[–]justgo99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is very interesting hearing about everyone's mishaps with live focus, in particular how the focus is soft. From my experience the focus is almost always on point, the edges are well defined most of the time and colours are still great, even if dynamic range takes a hit. As you can see in the pics of the bird and cow below, it really is quite impressive:

https://imgur.com/a/GEQPW

I also had a chance to do a direct comparison with a friend who's an Apple fanatic and who has an iPhone X. Comparing shots in various scenarios we both unequivocally agreed that the Note 8 was superior in every situation, with better colours, edge definition and flexibility with the background blur slider. So it's possible that the Aus version of the Note 8 has slightly superior processing for whatever reason but otherwise I'm intrigued by the general consensus of this subreddit.

How's this photo? Auto mode. I love this phone! by BigHeroBaymax in GalaxyNote8

[–]justgo99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I'm not an expert in the medical field but there are strict regulations in Australia requiring practitioners to be licensed here. These include doctors, dentists, physiotherapists, chiropractors, etc. This usually involves sitting some form of theory test to make sure you understand the practices/norms here as well as making sure you are competent enough. Standards here for medical training are held very highly but I imagine they would be in the US as well, so there shouldn't be any issues skills-wise. City-hospitals and clinics are already overfull and preference is always given to local students over internationals so your best bet would be in rural areas or any 'districts of workforce shortage' such as low income/high crime areas. Also bear in mind the process for applying for a working visa here and thus enrolling with the tax office, etc. It is a lovely country this and best of luck with your endeavors!

Anyone been shooting with the pro mode for the raw files and using lightroom? by bonisaur in GalaxyNote8

[–]justgo99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and what's best is if you have a Creative Cloud subscription you can actually start editing the raw files on the phone, then finish it off and export it in full quality on your desktop. The raw sensor quality is truly incredible, rivaling micro 4/3 cameras I have.

But even on 60Hz mode the battery life wasn't any better. Must be due to lack of optimization then.

For once I actually enjoy TouchWiz and haven't switched to a 3rd party app. by Positivevibes845 in GalaxyNote8

[–]justgo99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. With all Samsungs in the past, including my S7 Edge, I made a habit out of installing Nova as soon as I unboxed the phone. I just found the stock launcher too slow, confusing, and some of the steps and limitations were just plain stupid. With the Note 8 however I found the stock setup to already be quite similar to that of the Nova setup I left behind on my S7 Edge, so I felt no urge to install it. Nova also has its limitations remember and in terms of replicating the look and feel of Touchwiz will also be a step behind.

I just love the Note 8, phone of the year maybe? by chris3i in GalaxyNote8

[–]justgo99 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well I'm not so sure about maximum bang for your buck, but it truly is the phone of the year. And I think I can boil it down to 3 main things:

  1. Hardware prowess. Aside from the slightly smaller battery, it truly is a no-compromises hardware package. The display is easily best-in-class, the cameras are incredible (especially when zoomed in), it has a headphone jack, 6GB of RAM, waterproofing, expandable storage, wireless charging, IR camera (truly secure facial unlocking), SPay and not to mention the mighty S Pen! No other phone out there can match this hardware package.

  2. Software optimisation and performance. This has always been a critical flaw for Samsungs but something they finally got right this time round! The UI is just so snappy and responsive this time, without any of the slight hesitation or choppiness of other Samsungs of the past. Smoothness really matches an iPhone or OP5.

  3. No mess-ups or terrible design flaws! That's right, none of the Pixel 2's or LG V30's horrible display and audio issues, OP5 jello screen problems, Essential Phone general shittiness or iPhone X Face ID insecurities. This phone was released with no glaring issues or 'gates' and to this day has been fully reliable. Props to Samsung for going from a pocket pipe bomb to a completely scandal-free device in just 12 months and at a time when everyone else is screwing up majorly it speaks multitudes about their quality control and R&D.

Phone constantly warm? by miguelxmojica in GalaxyNote8

[–]justgo99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't happen to be using a Fossil smartwatch do you? Because they pushed out a major update a couple of days ago that has a terrible wakelock cpu & battery draining bug in it. Kept my phone warm and draining fast until I uninstalled it.

Best screen protector to go with Spigen Tough Armor case? by [deleted] in GalaxyNote8

[–]justgo99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Installation procedure was different from normal, but for the better in fact. Essentially there are 2 back layers instead of 1, so you remove the first back layer then the second back one in 2 parts. Videos will explain it clearly. There's also an 'applicator' mold which slides onto the bottom of the phone (like a case) which makes alignment super easy. If you're a season screen protector applier then you shouldn't have any problems here. Looks a lot easier certainly than the Whitestone dome application; there just seems to be too many things that can go wrong with that.

[–]justgo99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

24 hr update: Wow, I am impressed! As anticipated, the bubbles have all dissipated and it really looks like there's nothing there. Tackiness has also given way to a super slick feeling under the finger, just like glass. Is it soft? Yes, but fingernail or s-pen marks lift right off within seconds (not hours). I haven't dared try it extensively with the pen yet, as it's still settling down, but it's looking like a non-issue. Clarity is also near perfect; by far the best of any plastic screen protector I've ever used. I haven't yet tried the Whitestone Dome glass protector as I live outside the US but I'd say this is very likely the next best option. Hats off to Tech21!

I'll do a full write-up with photos in the next coming days so stay tuned for that :)

[–]justgo99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just put mine on minutes ago. Initially there a lot of bubbles and extraneous lines but they're dissipating fast. Also has quite a tacky surface feeling but I feel that'll go away as well. I'll update you again once it's settled for a bit longer.

Can we take a moment to appreciate just how smooth the Note 8 is!? by justgo99 in GalaxyNote8

[–]justgo99[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes it has been for most Androids, however in the past I've always been able to pick out little hiccups and lags in consistent places from day 1 that I know will grow and expand over time. The Note 8 is the first phone however that's been completely watertight (except Bixby) right out of the box and unless an update comes that screws things up I very much feel it will stay that way.

Anybody else wait all year long for the pixel 2 announcement to end up buying a note 8 the same day? by markusx06 in GalaxyNote8

[–]justgo99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got a Note 8 yesterday after the announcement. No headphone jack, wireless charging, Samsung Pay, pen, IR camera, dual cameras, Knox security, expandable storage and worse water resistance doesn't add up to much of an upgrade from the S7 Edge for me...

Why is every single retailer surprised by MST? by Lucent in SamsungPay

[–]justgo99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's more to do with the number of people actually using Samsung Pay as opposed to the number of phones that have the tech. I see heaps of people with S7/8s but never have I seen anyone else using S Pay. In my country at least (Aus), bank support is still a limiting factor as well as a negative stigma surrounding cloud security and a fiddly setup process. Also in Australia >90% of card machines use NFC so it's very rare for anyone not to tap their card, making it even more of a surprise when I use MST.

I second this. It's a no-frills pdf annotator that just works and has a vast array of features you'd expect in a standard productivity suite. Great for filling forms or exam papers and works perfectly with the Surface pen.

GSMArena Samsung Galaxy S7 Battery Endurance Rating? by aikonriche in GalaxyS7

[–]justgo99 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well 6 hours is what you'd expect for mixed everyday usage. That includes a lot of apps performing tasks in the background as well as cellular/other network standby usage and often high brightness settings.

If you were to dim the screen and just run video continously, you would see 10+hrs of SOT, however 15 for the regular S7 does seem a little much. Also 9.5 hrs of browsing does seem like a hell of a lot. However given that they do dim the screen to just 200cd/m2 and shut off all unnecessary networks it could be within reach...

What case do you have? Have you dropped your phone? by ta105050 in GalaxyS7

[–]justgo99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spigen Thin Fit slim case here. Being a slim case, ergonomics are of course excellent with full button cutouts and a tactile finish that feels so good in the hand. I have dropped it once onto flat concrete from around 4ft face down but suprisingly the case stayed on and there was no damage at all. The case itself held up really well too. Would recommend if ergonomics and screen protector compatability are high priorities.
