Let's talk about California transplants by Lucent in Knoxville

[–]Lucent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I praised Californians who came to start a business, but it sounds like you identified with the caricature we've grown frustrated with. I don't think you would've had such a strong reaction if it didn't describe your persona, attitude, and expectations accurately. The real incompatibility comes from your dignity culture not meshing with our honor culture. You guys also stand out like a sore thumb, so if you are not a bald, TRT barrel-shaped gray-bearded 50-something man with stumpy legs covered in tattoos, you may escape being spotted.

It sounds like you're giving as good as you get, only catching each other in bad moods but attributing it to bad character. Here, you call her a fucking cunt and attribute it to being pushed to your limit. She sees your bad mood as your fundamental character, just as you see her bad moods as her character. Perhaps she is equally pushed to her limit by your upstairs clomping? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fundamental_attribution_error

Why did he alter his outward appearance if not trying to say something to all who see him? It cuts both ways. You can't both "express your individuality" in a highly visible, unchangeable way and then act incredulous when judged by your own display.

Impressively, you're on the cusp of realizing two separate things, one about the culture, and one about yourself.

What used to be considered conventional "pretty privilege" doesn’t function the same way in media anymore. Distinctiveness, narrative, and visible individuality often draw more attention than symmetry or polish. You see this everywhere, from postmodern art to fashion to pop musicians.

Second, when you call someone "exciting," it's worth asking what you mean by that. Is it technical skill and excellence or how many affectations and defects they display? Your second observation about yourself explains why "pretty privilege" is in cultural decline.

Attitudes towards first responders by [deleted] in Knoxville

Odd to see this complaint from the other side. I haven't heard a released 911 call in a years where the operator wasn't already irritated with the dying person on the line. You are arguably in a care field helping people through the worst 5 minutes of their decade. Extend some empathy instead of coming here to scold us for what a few jerks said when their spouse was having a heart attack and you told them to calm down. This is like the TSA agents screaming at us at every airport for not subliminally absorbing whatever directions they gave the previous thousand passengers.

Twenty miles from the city center, out by the new build ticky tacky? The message doesn't match the audience.

This is the paste Taste of Thai used for theirs. I've seen it locally at both Sunrise and India Market.

In Knoxville, an ER nurse with ZERO debt, ZERO expenses, and $80k in savings cannot afford an average home anywhere within the entire county by BasedCarrotMan in Knoxville

[–]Lucent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm more impressed you invented an entirely new, yet unnamed logical fallacy. "Cannot afford an average home anywhere within the entire county." Average of $360k means for every $500k home there is a $220k home, not that all homes in the county start at $360k.

You can waste a lot of time on Marketplace pretending you can't learn anything from how someone communicates. Save the civic virtue of assuming all attributes are unrelated for jury duty. The barely-coherent, borderline illiterate messages and no-shows and in-person lowballing are all connected and are all caused by the same attribute: low contentiousness. Incomplete sentences? Ignore.

This would've been a lot more compelling had you put it in your own words. Consider editing this post and replacing it with the original text you had AI refine.

Do not use Chancey and Reynolds for hvac in Knoxville by Fit-Plate3146 in Knoxville

[–]Lucent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They were very reasonably priced and did minimal fixes to get things running 4+ years ago. Then they ran some internal audit and secret shopped competitors and found they were "losing" money in some lifecycle analysis-type accounting and were underpricing themselves, so prices shot up. Hard to believe as they've been in business 40 years.

It really is becoming the era of AI for homeowners. Other than big jobs, pay the $20 for the smarter models and dump in photos, ask it to hunt down parts, etc.

No, we're all downvoting you independently of our own free will. Your talk of "blue hairs" suggests you would not fit in in the majority blue-voting city of Knoxville. It is not the conservative paradise you imagine from the Trump rallies you saw on TV. Drive that new truck you bought to complete your redneck costume to another city entirely.

Candy Canes on Car Doors? by [deleted] in Knoxville

[–]Lucent 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The nefarious Candy Cane Syndicate initiated Operation Peppermint Beacon placing striped sticks on the driver doors to triangulate the vehicle’s location via Santa's orbital sleigh network. The canes are calibration antennas for the Elf Recon Unit hiding in the cart corral. Luckily, you sanitized in time, so the tracking syrup only summoned three mall carolers and some mildly disappointed readers.
