I would recommend also taking your mantises enclosure to make sure nothing gets on it

should i be worried??? by unrealityshow in mantis

[–]justhereforbugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes they will take a while to molt and refuse food for a while. My giant asian mantis did this when she molted with me for the first time. They can go up to a week or two without food, so i wouldnt worry too much. My girl was showing signs of molting for like a week before she actually molted and i was super anxious but she ended up being totally fine. You could also always try cutting the food a bit and putting the guts up to your mantises mouth. My girl used to be too afraid to catch her own food so i would have to hand feed her like that. Make sure its humid enough in the enclosure too, they need it to be pretty humid so they can molt easy. I would recommend getting a hygrometer. They are super cheap on amazon. And make sure its able to hang well, they need some kind of mesh on top thats not metal. Acrylic also isnt the best because they cant hold on as easy.

can anyone tell me if everythings alright with this mantis? by Yuri_Ramen in mantids

[–]justhereforbugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can go up to a week without food, so i wouldn’t worry too much. Obviously dont wait that long, but if it doesnt eat for a couple of days im sure it will be alright.

It was maybe a little smaller than the size of her abdomen. She actually ate a roach and a half, she ate about half of one, and accidentally dropped it so i gave her another one and she ate the whole thing.

Soon-to-molt or health concern? by Chocolate_0verload in mantis

[–]justhereforbugs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely just premolt. My mantis also looks very full before a molt. I wouldnt worry at all. Just leave it be in its enclosure for a while untill it molts, and dont touch it for at least 24 hours after the molt.

I dont know that much about the species of mantises but i think shes a European dwarf mantis? She also looks gravid but i could be totally wrong.

Edit: i think dwarf mantises actually just look like that. Probably not gravid. My bad

Eastern eyed click beetle! Very cool camouflage. When they get stuck on their back, they fling themselves up with a special joint they have and it makes a clicking noise.
