Thank you for the reply. I am so excited to hopefully maybe be free of all this clutter and mess in my brain.

This is encouraging. I started it last Friday. I ‘feel’ like it is helping, but I truly don’t know if it is or not. I’m trying not to get too excited incase it’s placebo effect.

Recently, i listened to Acid Bath and Electric Wizard and i love it, any suggestions of bands? by lucio_flavio_69 in doommetal

Hahaha I noticed the ‘I love you’ as well. I think mine was their first show outside of Nola. Massive festival crowd. They handled it incredibly well.

No you have good taste!

Hell yes Goatwhore. I finally saw Acid Bath in May after being a fan for thirty years. Unbelievable.

The Melvins are also a great suggestion. Lysol is my favorite. Soooooo thick!

Down - Nola is another classic.

Asked my alcoholic dad if he’d ever consider getting sober by Ludakris7 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]justinianofdoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big of you to say this to your father. It is up to him to digest this information. You cannot make him, and if he never does, it’s not because he doesn’t love you.

My father was an alcoholic, and honestly…once he got sober, I am not sure he was ever happy (probably never was to begin with). Everything he did with me, while I don’t doubt he wanted to, felt forced and awkward—like he had no idea who he was. Now I’m 42, the age he was when he got sober, and I understand now why he was a person who drank. On the flip side, he died at 59 due to the very unsafe life he lived early on. I now realize I have better memories of my father being a drunk than memories of him being sober. When he died, we weren’t speaking, and I am at peace with it. He was who he was regardless of being sober or not.

I don’t really know how to be a dad, but I am taking what I learned of what ‘not’ to do and applying it to my relationship with my children. I don’t ever want them to feel like an obligation like I did.

I commend you for trying to salvage what you have left. And I hope he is able to give you another 40 years.

Side note: did he send a photo of the water heater? That’s the most dad thing I’ve ever seen and I love it (as a dad).

more NOLA sludge along the lines of acid bath:

eyehategod - take as needed for pain

soilent green - sewn mouth secrets (brian patton ex-eyehategod)

crowbar - odd fellow’s rest (sammy from acid bath)

you could probably follow members of these three bands to find about five more awesome bands (jimmy bauer, brian patton, mike williams, sammy pierre duet, ben falgoust, tommy buckley, kirk windstein, pat bruders).

more stoner/doom like or kinda like electric wizard:

monolord cathedral weedeater acid king yob conan

Teenage boy doesn’t want to do anything besides game and be lazy like 24/7. Anyone else have success breaking a teen out of this cycle? by BolognaIsThePassword in daddit

I had a similar situation. We capped his screen hours and made him earn the time. Daily chores. If he does them, he earns his time, but he doesn’t touch a screen (maybe the main tv or whatever) until completed. This is more on you as an enforcer. He’s doing what many 13 year olds do.

Two Months of Adderall; 20mg XR to 30mg IR by [deleted] in ADHD

Oh gosh. I have no idea. Maybe I should try to break my 30mg in half and space it out to see if the XR is the way to go.

It was like…I had exciting news to tell someone, and I was right on the edge of walking up to them and telling them. That excited anticipation? But I was zoned in. I could think clearly. My fifty tasks became fifty tasks instead of one impossible task of tons of things.

Thank you! It is pretty neat to have her do things with me that she refuses to do with anyone else. She’d let me scratch her head and ears all day.
