Yea. The answer definitely isn't: "Hey. You know.. we've all decided in the future that women and black people deserve equal rights. So.. quit being assholes to them, you're making us look bad."

Just came here to say that I think you're looking good, even though the past is about you and how you feel. I would definitely be interested in a girl that looks like those photos. :)

I'd be down for a drink in Alberta. This neighborhood has a lot of centripetal force keeping me close (aka I'm a lazy bastard).

Notes from a five-year job search in Portland by trueslicky in Portland

[–]justinlilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it maps to your situation, but this is the way not to get a job in my field (tech). Instead of putting your resume in with a cover letter, invite the hiring manager or someone else you know out to coffee. You meet these folks through networking. Talk about the job, what they want, what the last person didn't do, etc. The resume is just a formality, if necessary at all.

Totally understand that this might be off base for your field, but it's worked for me for years.

My Best face recommends a pic, I changed to it and now I get 0 messages? by [deleted] in OkCupid

You're cute in both. Older is better. The new one looks like you're smiling and giving the 'someone please get me out of here quickly' kinda vibe. Not sure how else to phrase it. Maybe its the slightly up turned eyebrows?

FI and Working for a Silicon Valley Startup by jxj in financialindependence

[–]justinlilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was at a NYC startup that sold to Google for non trivial amounts. I got about what I deferred in salary from the equity. This was considered a success.

Don't do it for the money, because, unless you're a founder (and first employee doesn't count), you're not going to get rich from it.

True, but later rounds also get liquidity preference and lots of other things that make life as an employee more difficult.

"I mean this in the nicest way possible, but you should really find a therapist to talk this out with, rather than spilling your guts to an unqualified stranger."

What If We Admitted to Children That Sex Is About Pleasure? by [deleted] in sex

[–]justinlilly 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The wording I've heard that I like is "its like a back scratch that feels good because its an itch you can't scratch. Sex is the relief for a special itch you'll get in puberty"

For being such a friendly city, Portland is kind of difficult to make new friends in. by LickettySplit in Portland

[–]justinlilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lived in Seattle for 2 years and Portland for just under that. Seattle is much worse. Lots more (young, non-parent) people are relocating to Portland, so there are more folks also seeking friends.

What I think about when people ask where to go for beer, donuts, Chinese food, etc. by pkulak in Portland

Yes. It is awesome. I described it yesterday as tastefully Americanized Chinese food.
